About the Artist:

In addition to many shows and awards, Ms. Miller-Pierce’s work was featured in article ‘Shawdows’ in the 2004 summer Informart Magazine. She was named a trendsetter and her work appeared in the February, 2004 Art Business News. She is a featured artist for Wild Wings Fine Art Publishing and some of her work is currently in prints as well as appearing on various products. Her work was chosen in 2010 as one of 10 women artists to hang for a year in the Lieutenant Governor’s office. She was named by Indianapolis Woman, September, 1995, among one of Indiana’s top ten “most collectible” women artists. Ms. Miller-Pierce’s work was selected by the Fort Wayne Museum of Art to hang in their March, 1997, show. Ms. Miller-Pierce, in addition to being a professional artist, is a psychotherapist in private practice. She frequently draws from her artistic side in her therapy with clients. She finds art to be both therapeutic and a diagnostic tool.

Artist Statement:

I am attracted to scenes involving strong clear light, and thus, strong cast shadows for subject matter in paintings. I look for a composition of strong dynamic dark and light patterns to create a sense of tension and energy in a painting which can involve and draw in the viewer. Even though my work is very realistic in nature, the overall pattern has a great deal of abstraction. Color and its nuances are very important to me. I think of color in terms of complements to enhance the tensions and drama in the overall composition. I hope that my paintings may help the viewer to arrive at a different perspective of the world and its beauty.
