Artist Medium: Visual Arts: Acrylic
My mixed media is created by floating acrylic inks on water, applied with either an eye dropper, mini-whisk, or bamboo skewer. The inks are then manipulated into a design with a stylus and lastly watercolor paper is gently laid on top to pick up the inks. At this point a monoprint is formed, I may then enhance areas with watercolor, pastel, ink, or pencil – thus the mixed media. This is a centuries old process that I have recreated to produce what I term as ‘objective marbling’. In learning to marble paper and fabric I also learned to hand-bind books. My favorites are travel journals using old National Geographic maps on the covers.
