I am an artist living and working in Indianapolis, IN. I grew up in a rural Indiana town of 300 and spent lots of my childhood creating art and inventing ways to keep myself entertained. I spent my free time playing sports, riding bikes, and building forts.  I had a classic 80’s childhood…outside playing from sun up to sun down.  The one constant in my childhood was my love for art.  I knew from an early age that art was the only career path for me, and have been pursuing it ever since.

About My Work:

I am almost exclusively a portrait artist. I am drawn to faces and the emotion they hold. My work is mainly a study of the shapes that light and shadows create. I seek to create a portrait likeness by building with the tiny shapes created by lights and shadows. I discovered my style after the importance ‘seeing shapes’ was drilled into our heads during art school. I became obsessed with really staring at objects and faces and breaking down all the little shapes. People are always perplexed by how I see all the shapes, but it just makes sense to me to break things down the way I do. I have come to love the process and the work it produces. My process also really goes hand in hand with my perfectionist nature and tendency to obsess over things. Oil is my preferred medium, but I also love working in watercolor, pencil, ink, and mixed media. As long as I am creating and growing as an artist, I am happy.

I have done fine art painting for the last 15+ years.  I have worn many artist hats over the years as well, including painting, teaching, printmaking, family and wedding photography, and am just now venturing into illustration.  My goal is to one day work from home full time as a freelance artist.

I am open to commission work as well as freelance illustration.  Feel free to contact me!
