Minda Douglas

Biography

It was at Wayne State University in Detroit where Minda Douglas first became fascinated with the tactile and experimental processes associated with printmaking. Minda received her BFA from here in 1993 and went on to attend Louisiana State University where she received a MFA in Fine Art with an emphasis in printmaking in 1996. After moving to Indianapolis in 1996 her work has been exhibited in a variety of group and solo shows including passages, in the dark, and wallpaper at 4star Gallery, intimate at Indiana University Kokomo, Art of the Book at the Indianapolis Art Center, and, Phase 1, Phase 2 at The Harrison Center for the Arts. Minda received a Creative Renewal Fellowship from the Indianapolis Arts Council in 2003 which she used to study non-toxic printmaking techniques. Minda has shown her work in juried exhibitions regionally and nationally. Minda has taught studio art and Art History at Herron School of Art, the Indianapolis Art Center, the University of Indianapolis and Indiana University Kokomo. Currently she is Assistant Professor of Fine Arts at Indiana University Kokomo.

Artist Statement

My work is inspired by ecology, geologic time, and environmental issues. I use images symbolically to represent complex concepts related to such topics as the cycles of nature, evolution, and decomposition.
