Arts Council Seeks Existing Art for Vinyl Mural

Call to Artists
Request for Proposals (RFP)

Project Title - Arts Council Window Mural
Deadline for Submissions - Monday, March 5, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. (EDT) This is a NOT postmark deadline. No exceptions.

Project Specifics
The Arts Council of Indianapolis is requesting existing artwork for reproduction and installation on the Arts Council façade located at 924 N. Pennsylvania Street. This RFP is an open call to experienced artists from central Indiana (Marion, Boone, Hamilton, Hendricks, Morgan, Johnson, Shelby, and Hancock counties).

The Arts Council is seeking existing artworks that will be printed on vinyl and installed on the façade windows by a signage company. If selected, the artist’s work will remain on view for two years.

Artists may submit three existing works that are thematically or visually similar (one for each window), or one artwork that lends itself to the horizontal layout of the three windows. There is no required theme, however, the Arts Council is especially interested in artworks that somehow highlight the arts as a whole, including dance, theatre, literature, film, and more.

Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, artists must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Work as a professional artist or artist team
  • Live in central Indiana
  • Be willing to meet all contractual obligations and adhere to the strict timeline

Selection Process
The Arts Council’s internal selection committee will review artists’ proposals and choose the finalist.

Selection Criteria
Artists will be selected based upon the following criteria:

  • Work of the highest caliber and effective execution
  • Visual impact on pedestrian and vehicular traffic
  • Appropriateness of content (should be appropriate for all audiences)

Compensation
The selected artist will be given a stipend of $1,000 for the reproduction and display of their work for a 2-year period. The artist is responsible for providing a high-quality digital image of the selected artwork. The Arts Council will cover the cost of printing and installing the adhesive vinyl mural ($2,000).
