Community Partnership Coordinator for the Arts Administration Department

The Community Partnership Coordinator is a 9-month, 25/hr week position that works with the Department of Arts Administration and the Art+Design Program of the Jordan College of the Arts at Butler University. The purpose of the position is to implement an ongoing strategic initiative for internship experiences for Arts Administration and Art + Design majors. The Community Partnership Coordinator works in tandem with faculty and staff in Arts Administration and Art + Design to establish and build student/community relationships and opportunities.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinating administrative aspects of the various types of internship placements for arts administration and art + design students.
• Building and maintaining relationships, in conjunction with faculty, with current and potential mentors in local arts/nonprofit organizations.
• Assisting students in developing resumes and cover letters.
• Assisting faculty with the internship evaluation process.
• Monitoring all internship opportunities to ensure appropriate student learning objectives.
• Developing a communication vehicle for internship opportunities to students.
• Maintaining mutually beneficial relationships among students, faculty, staff, and the community.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in arts administration, community development, or a related field
• At least 3 years professional experience in non-profit arts administration or related field
• Experience working with students at the undergraduate level
• Knowledge of and experience in the diverse nonprofit and arts community within the Indianapolis metropolitan area
• Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate ideas and recommendations both orally and in writing
• Ability to thrive in situations requiring high degrees of collaboration, timeliness, and deadlines
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and technology skills
• Experience working with interns preferred
• Experience working in an institution of higher education preferred

Butler University’s Department of Arts Administration is one of the first comprehensive undergraduate arts administration programs in the country. The department awards a Bachelor of Science degree in Dance Arts Administration, and Bachelor of Science degrees in Arts Administration with concentrations in either music, theatre, or general/multi-arts; there are currently 90 majors. This JCA program is fully integrated into the University's liberal arts curriculum and arts administration students are required to be personally involved in multiple art forms. The undergraduate arts administration program focuses on preparing students for careers working with a wide variety of artists and nonprofit arts organizations.  Students are given opportunities to learn and develop skills through experiential learning, internships, and special projects with small and large arts organizations.

The Art + Design Program is the newest component of the Jordan College of the Arts. Its mission is to educate artists to acquire skills of the designer, and designers to attain the aesthetic eye of the artist, achieved through an innovative, hybrid curriculum that emphasizes sustainable, traditional, and digital materials.

The Jordan College of the Arts at Butler University includes undergraduate programs in arts administration, art + design, dance, music, and theatre; a graduate program in music; and the Butler Community Arts School, an arts education program. The respective departments are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, Dance, and Theatre.
