Drawing Resurfaced II: National Contemporary Drawing Exhibition

Contemporary drawing has evolved into rich and complex art forms. The field today encompasses alternative processes, mixed media, collage, hybrid forms, and reinvigorated traditional forms. This exhibition seeks works that explore conceptual and theoretical issues, push the boundaries of drawing practice, and engage in critical dialogue.

The exhibition may include works of various scales, as well as drawings in multiple parts, and drawing installations.

Dates for this second installment of the exhibition are November 14 through Friday, December 15, 2017.

Jurors
Works will be selected for the exhibition by: Christine Wuenschel, associate professor of Art & Design at Purdue University, Eric Penington, continuing lecturer of Art & Design at Purdue University, and Liz Erlewine, Interim Director of Purdue University Galleries.

Eligibility
Open to artists over the age of 18 residing in the United States. Any media considered by the artist as appropriate to the contemporary practice of drawing is eligible. Traditional media, alternative media, as well as innovative and experimental approaches are encouraged. All works submitted for exhibition must be original and completed in the years 2014 through 2017. Submissions of any size and format will be considered. All submitted work must be able to be shipped (flat or rolled) by common carrier or hand-delivered. Exhibiting artists will be responsible for all shipping expenses involved in participating in the exhibition. Current faculty, staff, and students at Purdue University are ineligible.

Entry Fee
A non-refundable entry fee of $30 entitles the artist to submit up to three (3) entries; one view and one detail per work (total 6 images).

Procedure

  1. Entrants may submit up to three (3) entries of original works. Selections will be made from digital images in the form of jpg files (images should have a maximum file dimension of eight inches at resolution of 300 dpi).
  2. Files should be named with the artist's last name and lettered to correspond to the entry form (i.e. Smith_A). Artists may include one detail per entry if considered relevant (Smith_Adetail). All images should be of the highest quality to ensure accurate consideration.
  3. Entries must be received via Submittable by Friday, September 22nd.
  4. Notification of acceptance will be made via email the week of October 2nd.

Presentation
Accepted artworks must be professionally prepared for exhibition and must include detailed instructions for installation or assembly as necessary. The jurors reserve the right to reject works which differ significantly from the original digital image submission.

Catalogue
A catalogue will be produced for the exhibition. Each entrant will receive a copy of the catalogue, available on site in the gallery and with return of artwork.

Awards/Sales
Purchase awards as well as awards of merit will be presented at the discretion of the jurors, pending available funding.

Sales will be encouraged. All work will be considered for sale unless otherwise indicated. Purdue University Galleries will not take a commission from the purchase of works from the exhibition.

Shipping and Hand Delivery
Do NOT send any actual prints until notified of acceptance. Individual artists will be responsible for payment of shipping accepted entries to the Purdue University Galleries. Accepted works will be due at Purdue Galleries by November 3rd. Entries will be returned in the same carton in which they arrive.

Insurance/Liability
All accepted entries will be insured while at Purdue Galleries. Exhibiting artists are expected to insure their own works during initial transit to Purdue Galleries. Every precaution will be taken in handling the entries, but Purdue University will not be responsible for loss or damage however caused.

Agreement and copyright
With the submission of artwork to the Drawing Resurfaced review, the artist agrees to all terms set forth in this prospectus and grants permission to photograph and reproduce any accepted work for the catalogue, an exhibition website, and for publicity purposes.
