TINY VI: Celebrating the Year of Vonnegut
UPDATE:
The theme is meant to be supportive of a city-wide initiative to help celebrate one of the great artists and thinkers of our time who happened to be from Indianapolis.
Gallery 924 wants you to create your own uniquely wonderful artwork that TINY is known for; in your style, in your materials, with your subject matter. If there is a way you can look at your work thru the lens of Kurt, his work, his personality, his vision, that is wonderful. It can be so subtle that only you would recognize the reference and that is fine. Some artists will take a more literal approach and that is fine too.
We are not looking for or asking for narrative work that relates exactly to and only to the man or his writings alone. It is a gentle, subtle, and respectful reference to one of our own.
Please do not over think this....do what you do and if you can be inspired to share a KV reference, that is awesome and welcome.
Below are some links you may find interesting should you choose to investigate a bit further.

ORIGINAL CALL
December 2017
Gallery 924 is seeking submissions (existing or proposed) from central Indiana artists for the sixth annual holiday group show, TINY VI: Celebrating the Year of Vonnegut. The goal is to feature as many artists as possible (both emerging and established) while offering the widest array of styles and media to encourage patrons to learn about new artists and experience the joys of collecting original art.
Artists working in all styles and media (2D, 3D, installation, etc.) are welcome – the only limitation is size. All work should be “tiny”….or no greater than six inches in any direction. (max. size is 6” x 6” x 6”, there is no minimum size). TINY should not be confused with a more traditional “miniatures” show. Artists who create miniature works are welcome to submit, but this show is more about the element of surprise, experimentation, interaction, and whimsy!
NEW THIS YEAR! For the first time, TINY has a theme. We are joining the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library for the city-wide celebration of native Indianapolis author, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. All artwork submitted this year should relate to or reference some aspect of Vonnegut or his work. NOTE: although we would love to get a handful of Vonnegut portraits, we certainly do not want or expect a gallery full of them. Your work can still be your work, the reference to Vonnegut can be subtle and minimal and still be successful for this exhibition.
Artists have a few options to submit:
OR
If the work can be installed without permanently damaging the structure and only take up a 6” x 6” x 6” space, it is acceptable. When you visit the gallery to pick your spot, take a photo of the location you want for your piece and send in the photo along with the sketch/design of your proposed piece (bonus points for Photoshop-savvy artists who can super-impose a sketch onto the gallery photo and really make us see it!) If your proposal is accepted, we will do our best to ensure you can exhibit you work in the area you selected. (see images below of successful site-specific installations from past TINY shows)
Selection Process
The group exhibition will be chosen by an internal selection committee and curated and installed by the Gallery 924 staff. Work will be selected based on the quality of the work, how well it fits within the larger group show, and the relevance to the theme of the show: TINY VI: Celebrating the Year of Vonnegut.
Eligibility
All central Indiana artists over the age of 18 are welcome to submit. For these purposes, central Indiana is considered to be Marion and the seven surrounding counties. However, due to the unique theme of this year’s show, we are open to artists with a strong connection to Indianapolis or the work of Kurt Vonnegut who may currently reside outside of our normal coverage area.
Timeline
Submission
To submit, please email the following to gallery924@indyarts.org:
If you do not receive an e-mail confirming your submission within 2 days excluding weekends, please contact us as we may not have received it.
*Please note that Gallery 924 takes a 25% commission on all artwork sold in the gallery; however, artists should keep their prices at a consistent level based upon previous sales, not commission rates. When pricing your work for this particular show, keep in mind that the Arts Council will be promoting the show as a great place to buy unique, Indypendent holiday gifts, so a price range at or below $100 would be most appropriate, but certainly not required. The most common and successful prices range from $35 - $150.
