JCI Indianapolis presents a grant for local sustainable change in conjunction with an evening of wine tasting and community action. Community members will gather at Let’s Wine About It (LWAI) to enjoy wine, whine about current community issues, and become part of the solution as they support active citizens with plans for change. One project will be awarded a grant to put their plan into action and effectuate real, lasting change in their own backyard.

This grant is funded by the JCI Indianapolis Foundation, local businesses, and LWAI ticket sales. The Let’s Wine About It event and grant are created and awarded by JCI Indianapolis. JCI Indianapolis is the local chapter of Junior Chamber International (JCI), a collective of young, active citizens all over the world who are creating impact in their communities. JCI Indianapolis believes in thinking globally and acting locally. The mission of JCI Indianapolis is to build a better Indianapolis by providing opportunities that empower young people to create positive change.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the LWAI Grant is to bring together young professionals and problem solvers to create lasting change within the Indianapolis community by funding a project. The focus of the project must be to solve a problem experienced in the Indianapolis community. Projects that make a substantial step toward solving a local problem will also be considered. This grant is intended for projects that present an ongoing solution to an identified problem.

ELIGIBILITY

Any individual (age 21 or older) or organization with a desire to better Indianapolis is eligible to apply for the LWAI Grant.

BUDGET & TIME FRAME

Grant funds will be limited to $5,000. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to carry out their project, or a substantial measurable portion of their project, with a budget of $5,000. The project must be completed by December 31, 2017. Additional time may be awarded upon a demonstration of unexpected hardship and due diligence, but will not exceed an additional three months. Failure to complete the project may require a reimbursement of the funds provided.

REVIEW & SELECTION PROCESS

A Grant Finalists Selection Committee will select up to five (5) projects as finalists to be voted on at the LWAI event by attendees on November 18, 2016. Projects will be scored based upon their feasibility, value created for funds received, sustainable nature of the solution, and impact on the Indianapolis community.

The Grant Finalists Selection Committee will be made up of:

  • JCI LWAI Grants Subcommittee representative
  • JCI Indianapolis President
  • JCI Indianapolis Foundation representative
  • JCI National representative
  • LWAI Event Sponsor representative(s)

After the finalists are chosen, attendees at the LWAI event will have the opportunity to vote for the project of their choosing. The project with the most votes will be announced as the grant recipient at the conclusion of the Let’s Wine About It event.

OBLIGATIONS

If selected as a finalist, applicants will be required to attend the Let’s Wine About It event hosted by JCI Indianapolis to present their projects to event attendees. If the applicant is not available to attend the event, a representative may be sent in his/her place. The event will be held on November 18, 2016 at The Speak Easy in Broad Ripple. Finalists will be given three (3) minutes to present their proposed projects to event attendees to persuade attendees to vote for their project.

If selected as the grant recipient, the applicant agrees to:

  • recognize the grant provider(s) on any materials about their project;
