Deadline to Submit: May 26, 2017, 4:30 pm EST

The Indiana Arts Commission seeks statements of qualifications for a visual artist for the project described below. The selected artist will submit an invoice to the Indiana Arts Commission for the services described below.

All inquiries about this RFQ should be directed to Anna Tragesser, Artist and Community Services Manager at the contact information above. Please reference your interest in the chalk mural on June 9.

Project: Hoosier Quilt Chalk Mural at From the Ground Up

Location: IUPUI SPEA North Courtyard (Click here for a map)

Time frame: On site work may begin at 7:30 a.m. on June 9 and mural must be completed by 2:30 p.m. on June 9. (If even surface preparation is needed, please communicate with the IAC. The IAC will coordinate with IUPUI for permission).

Compensation: Artist may submit an invoice for an amount not to exceed $300 for all project work (including prep, implementation and cleanup), travel to the site and all materials needed for the mural.

Lunch and a parking voucher at IUPUI for the day will be provided by the IAC.

Scope: The selected artist will lay down a horizontal 5 feet x 14 feet temporary mural on concrete/brick based on the attached artwork. The final product is not required to be visually identical to the attached artwork, but may be interpreted in the artist’s own style as long as it retains the ability to read the exact words included in the attached artwork from a skywalk 100 feet above ground.

The artist is requested to invite the public to contribute to the mural by filling in colors, drawing in negative space, etc. This public participation element can be designed by the artist, but should be reviewed and approved by the IAC. At 3:30 p.m. on June 9, participants in From the Ground Up: A Creative Placemaking Workshop will visit the mural site and will be encouraged by the artist to contribute to the final piece of the mural.

The final product must be able to be removed with a power washer by IUPUI Maintenance in the following week.

The project will be documented by IAC partners and may be used in print and web materials associated with the IAC and its work. Artist credit will be attributed.

Submission requirements: Contact Anna Tragesser by phone or email to communicate your interest.

Provide details about your previous experience in chalk murals, an image or example of your past work.

All information must be submitted to Anna by May 26, 2017, 4:30 p.m. EST.

Selection process: IAC staff will review the candidates. The artist may be selected before the deadline. The selected artist will be notified by phone or email on May 31 at the latest.
