Indianapolis Zoo Seeks Artists for the Naturally Inspired Paint Out

The Indianapolis Zoo Seeks Artists to Participate in the Naturally Inspired Paint Out presented by The Great Frame Up Downtown

Paint Out Day: April 21, 2018
Art Show: June 1-Aug. 22, 2018
Silent Auction: Aug. 23, 2018

Experience the Zoo through the eyes of artists — both human and animal — during the 16th annual Naturally Inspired Paint Out Day on Saturday, April 21! During this annual event, artists transform a blank canvas or a hunk of clay into a truly extraordinary work of art inspired by the natural world, right here at the Indianapolis Zoo and White River Gardens.

After the paintings have dried and been professionally framed by The Great Frame Up Downtown, they are displayed for the summer in the Schaefer Rotunda at White River Gardens. Plus, you also get to enjoy the works of some of our more artistically inclined animals. Who knows — you may see a penguin Picasso, a walrus Warhol, an elephant Escher and many others!

If visitors see a painting or sculpture that they'd like to have at home, they can join in for the annual silent auction and artists' reception, 5:30-7:30pm on Thursday, Aug. 23, in the Hulman Riverhouse at the Gardens.

For Artists

Apply to be part of the 2018 Naturally Inspired Paint Out
Each spring, the Zoo invites a group of 15 juried artists to make art "en plein air" (outdoors) at Naturally Inspired Paint Out Day. This signature Zoo event is a great opportunity to showcase your talents in front of thousands of Zoo patrons while also supporting the Zoo's mission of animal conservation. To apply, please return your completed application form by 5 pm March. 2, 2018.

Junior Paint Out
Youth ages 9-12 years can get inspired and explore their creative side with the new Junior Paint Out. Participants will create a group art piece as well as individual works. The group art piece will be on display to the public in our summer-long show in the Schaefer Rotunda at White River Gardens, and auctioned off to benefit the Zoo at our annual Naturally Inspired Silent Auction and Artists' Reception presented by The Great Frame Up Downtown.
