MU Theatre Technical Coordinator

Marian University, a Catholic Franciscan institution of higher education, invites applications for the position of Theatre Technical Coordinator.  The Technical Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Marian University Theatre.  This position is a part-time, year-round position.  The Marian University Theatre maintains an active schedule of performances, conferences, and other cultural events.  The Technical Coordinator assists in creating conditions for the success of these events and maintains the facility so that the academic integrity of the institution is preserved.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and operate all theater systems and equipment
  • Monitor, maintain, and repair the equipment including audio, lighting, lighting fixtures, lighting cables (both power and signal), sound and rigging equipment
  • Provide technical support to groups using the venue
  • Ensure that staff and other users of the facility follow proper safety procedures and assists in conducting safety and training programs
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure the effective use of resources and staff in the technical operations of the Theater
  • Train students in areas of lighting, sound, special effects, installation, safety, and security as appropriate
  • Assist in coordinating, scheduling, and overseeing student staff members

Requirements include:

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission and values of Marian University
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge of theatre lighting and sound systems and equipment including: Paradigm, ETCnet, ETC Ion console, Behringer audio console, LED instruments, and SourceFour among others
  • Knowledge of stage operations including lighting and sound design, audio-visual design and stage rigging
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, practices, and procedures involved in theatre technical operations
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety practices involved in theater technical operations
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Superior organizational and time-management skills
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends
