The Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience is a 7.5 acre outdoor experience showcasing eight sports, an Avenue of Champions, a family fitness path, a running/walking path and a climbable Treehouse of Sports.  The Sports Legends Experience combines rich sports history, physical fitness, and health education in a variety of family-fun, indoor and outdoor experiences.

OVERVIEW:
The Facilitator, SLE works to assist with delivering interpretive experiences throughout The
Children’s Museum of Indianapolis through conversation, interaction, presentation, and
demonstration of sports to children and families. The Facilitator is part of the team that engages
in world class interpretation and presentation to museum visitors and guests. The incumbent
provides the highest quality immersive and interactive experiences for children and families by
researching and performing informal interactions, formal athletic drills, costumed characters, and
storytelling. He/she participates in gallery and exhibit maintenance and customer service
delivery.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides exceptional service and experiences to the visitors and guests of the museum.
2. Interacts positively with visitors and respond to questions and concerns. Resolves visitor
concerns quickly and tactfully. Responds to visitor needs for first aid and lost children.
Remains visible and approachable in designated spaces. Knows and adheres to museum
policies and procedures.
3. Provides facilitation primarily in the SLE. Maintains general knowledge of all museum
spaces and in-depth knowledge of interpretation programs for designated spaces including.
4. Completes training in internal interpretation, SLE and general customer service and
operations. Remains well versed in changing exhibit content, activities, scripts and
facilitated programs. Maintains a high level of content knowledge for each exhibit in order to
provide high quality experiences both formally and informally.
5. Prepares for the presentation of specifically designated interpretation programs by
researching subject matter, memorizing scripts, practicing skills, and honing presentation
techniques.
6. Prepares experience and exhibit spaces daily for visitors. Maintains a safe and inviting
atmosphere. Greets visitors. Provides daily care and cleaning of exhibit and activities.
Completes checklists and report all maintenance and safety concerns. Sets up and takes
down sets, props, or equipment used in rehearsal and performance spaces.
7. Presents programs and interacts directly with visitors. Participates in set up and take down of
experiences, games, activities, sets, props and seating; gathering audiences and conducting
post performance discussion. Participates in evaluating staff and audience response to
presentations.
8. Maintains cleanliness of costumes and uniforms, and notifies supervisor of larger needs.
Maintains daily audience attendance records.
9. Interacts with visitors to help them understand exhibit concepts and content. Implements
educational interpretive experiences in all assigned spaces to achieve the goals and objectives
of the experience, and to help explain the main messages and concepts to visitors.
The Children’s Museum is open six to seven days per week. The Sports Legends Experience is
open from mid-March through October. Facilitators are required to work a flexible and varying
schedule, which may include evenings and weekends.

REQUIREMENTS:
1. High School diploma or GED equivalent.
2. Experience working with children and youth in formal and informal environments.
3. Strong presentation and customer service skills. Background in sports experience preferred.
4. Must work a flexible weekday, weekend, evening and some holiday’s schedule. Must be able
to work outdoors in extreme heat, cold, humid, unpredictable Indiana weather. The Museum
is open 7 days per week.
5. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment that values diversity and is child-centric.
6. Interact with visitors and co-workers in a supportive, positive, and friendly manner.
7. Maintain behavior patterns acceptable to co-workers and the general museum culture.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be able to perform extensive work in indoor and outdoor environments, to perceive space,
to read documents and diagrams and to view computer monitor.
2. Must be able to communicate through projecting voice and varying tone. Team and group dialog
required for communication of plans and concepts.
3. Must be able to sit, stand, squat, and kneel for long periods of time frequently in costume or
uniform. Must be able to negotiate pedestrian travel throughout the museum physical plant and
campus.
4. Must be able to lift objects up to 45 pounds of weight, tolerate dust in the indoor environment and
extreme temperatures, and humidity in the outdoor environment.
