Theater at the Fort Seeks Part-Time Theater Facility Technician

Job Title: Theater Facility Technician
Reports to: Executive Director
Work Environment: Mostly evenings and weekends, average 10-12 hours/week. No benefits. $10 per hour.

Function: Maintain the facility, Theater at the Fort 8920 Otis Ave. Lawrence, IN 46216

Candidates must be age 21+, able to lift 40lbs, able to climb a stepladder, have a current, valid driver’s license, pass a background check and provide references. Only candidates who adequately demonstrate that they meet the requirements will be considered for interview.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. General Building Maintenance

  • Open and lock facility before and after performances.
  • Maintain trash receptacles.
  • Keep public restrooms stocked.
  • Keep common areas clear.
  • Make sure all lights are in working order.
  • Vacuum House carpeting.
  • Sweep or Mop front lobby.
  • Keep concessions refrigerator stocked.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies
  • Shovel and salt walks in wintry weather.
  • Keep walkways free from weeds and litter during warm season.

2. Evening &/or Weekend Building Manager

  • Prepare building for public shows.
  • Work with Performers for basic facility needs.
  • Work with Volunteers for basic facility needs.
  • Provide assistance for any handicapped guests’ needs.
  • After performance, be sure all tech equipment is checked in and stored in locked closet.
  • Be sure building is secure and security system is on after all have left the building.

3. Building and Grounds Committee

  • Prepare lists of needed facility repair and/or improvements for Building and Grounds Committee’s review.
  • Assist Building and Grounds committee in repair/clean up tasks when needed.

Skills:

  • Good oral and written communication skills (required).
  • Ability to work effectively with various personality types (required).
  • Maintain strong professional and positive demeanor (required).
  • Proven accuracy and attention to detail (required).

This is a great part-time job for the handyman/handywoman who loves historic buildings and performing arts, an ideal opportunity for a second job or to keep a retiree busy.
