Wassaic Project offers a graphic design fellowship to provide emerging professionals with an opportunity to work with a growing arts organization. They are looking for candidates who are early in their careers with an interest in artists and arts organizations and can thrive in a deadline-driven environment. The Fellow will work directly with the Design Director and Programming & Operations Manager to develop the identity and ephemera for the Wassaic Project’s 2017 season, will be mentored in professional development and involved in all aspects of the design process, and is expected to work independently to create high level work in both concept and execution.

PROGRAM SPECIFICS

  • Fellowship begins in March and lasts one year.
  • Compensation is $3,000 for the fellowship year.
  • The Fellow works remotely, with possible meetings in the winter months at the Wassaic Project offices in Brooklyn, if the fellow’s schedule allows for it.
  • Non-U.S. citizens must possess a valid work visa for the entire fellowship period.
  • Applicants must possess a graduate degree in graphic design.
  • Macintosh proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator software is required.
  • Interest in contemporary arts and current design and culture desired.
  • Successful applicants must have good communication and organizational skills and be able to meet tight deadlines.
  • The Wassaic Project is an EOE/AA Employer.

PROJECTS INCLUDE

  • Conceptualize the visual identity for the upcoming season.
  • Design promotional collateral including posters, postcards, exhibition graphics, print advertising, social media and banner ads.
  • Create invitations for fundraisers, comment cards, and merchandise graphics.
  • Design a newsprint Summer Guide and a Festival Visitor’s Guide with corresponding mobile app.

  • A current CV.
  • An edited portfolio of up to 10 projects. Please include a descriptive caption with every image. If you are submitting work that you did as part of a group, please indicate your role in the project in the caption. If your work is time based, please include a link where your work can best be seen (website/YouTube/Vimeo, etc). Please make sure that this link is active.
