Of highlight will be the group “Telephone” show in the second floor Schwitzer Gallery, where each piece is inspired by the piece displayed before it, the first referencing a film from Indy Film Fest. Admission and parking are free, general programming starts at 6pm, although times may vary in individual spaces. With over 60 artists and art businesses, the Circle City Industrial Complex has become a destination for art appreciators and supporters of local work. Just northeast of the Mass Ave Art and Theatre Cultural District, at 1125 Brookside Ave., the CCIC Artists First Friday programming is a must-see stop, while events and viewable hours continue throughout the month.
The Main Entrance of the building (identified by its black marble façade) is now open, for easy access to both the South Studios and the North Studios (with a wheelchair accessible ramp and elevator). Maps of the building are also available in several locations to help visitors find all that the building has to offer. The CCIC building is accessible off of 10th Street, near the North Split, and also via the Pogue’s Run Trail, connecting to both the Monon Trail and the downtown Cultural Trail system.

Schwitzer Gallery
“TELEPHONE” will exhibit works by 20 CCIC artists created through a process designed to mimic the childhood game, “telephone,” in which players whisper a word or phrase from ear to ear to reveal the revisionist process of listening, with the last player guessing what the first player said. Instead of using words and phrases, CCIC artist will use an alternative process of secretive art-making to interpret, reinterpret, and pass along.
Neighboring CCIC tenant, Indy Film Fest, provided a seven-minute film, selected for the 2018 Indy Film Fest, to kick-start this playful exhibit. All 20 works will be exhibited alongside the secret film during April’s First Friday. Attendees will be able to watch this short film and look at the works inspired by it in the order that they were passed from artist to artist. These works will also be displayed during the Bigger Picture Show on April 13th, at CCIC, and will remain on display for the duration of the Indy Film Fest. The 2018 Indy Film Fest will be held at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, opening April 26th and closing May 6th.

Anthony Armstrong is a self-taught abstract painter and photographer. He highlights images of travel, street photography and human interest subjects. A chef by trade, and a photo enthusiast by hobby, Armstrong has grown to include abstract painting as another outlet of expression. In his photography, he prefers to work in black and white, so that the viewer will see other elements of the image, in the absence of color. Armstrong’s studio is located in South Studios.

Daily Epiphany Studio
Michele Burns and Kurt Kriese will share the evening in Studio B17. Kriese will show landscapes, large abstract paintings, and stained glass, while Burns will feature new “Nightlight Art,” photoluminescent paintings and mobiles painted with her own photoluminescent paint recipe that retains its glow all night long. Darkroom Revelations – Gallery C7A
Darkroom Revelations will host “Music of Trees,” with photographs by Gayle Moore, Tom Potter, and Nancy Frass. From the silent beginning of a seedling reaching for the light, through the seasons and across the years, trees sing to our hearts and minds. Martha Nahrwold presents her landscapes in “Marbled Impressionism,” using the millennia-old technique of marbling paper in impressionistic stylings. Well-traveled, Nahrwold often depicts sights she’s seen, including her favorite live oaks. Five Seasons Studio Gallery is located on the first floor of the North Studios.
Full Circle Nine Gallery
The Full Circle Nine Gallery will host Andrew Koeling, and his show, “Transcendence” as the featured artist for the April First Friday Art Tour. “The story isn’t something that is conveyed by any individual piece—the idea of living beyond yourself, of expanding your world view, of realizing that we as human beings are more than just flesh and blood, sex, race, or religion,” explained Koeling, an abstract epoxy artist. “It’s recognizing that we are far more the same than different—that is the premise of transcending the moment.”

Jeffery Allen
Metal sculptor Jeffery Allen will be showing work for the April First Friday. Having practiced the craft of welding and sculpting for over 20 years, the former active duty Marine has traveled the world and his art is influenced by the world’s beauty and mythology. Jeffery Allen is located in B12, in the First Floor Corridor.
Kenton Pratt
Freshly back from an ocean cruise, working as a glass blower, Pratt is a renaissance man, continuing his work in glass-blowing, and also working in book-making, painting, knitting, and pottery. Featured in November will be a series of paintings of wool socks. Pratt knits two pair, gives one to a friend, while he wears the other. The subject of the painting is the pair he has worn, unfolding an interesting story as told by the artist. Pratt’s studio is located on the second floor of the North Studios.
Nancy Lee Designs
Jewelry and metal artist Nancy Lee will be presenting enameled paintings on copper, as well as a new collection of jewelry, while photographer Rad Drew will present his latest selection of prints, based on his recent travels. Nancy Lee Designs is located on the first floor of the North Studios.

SATCH ART SPACE will host “Art Takes Aim” in the White Gallery, where Satch will be exhibiting paintings on shooting targets, focusing on positive messages. Attendees are encouraged to make a target message to take home or display. The Gray Gallery will host “Contemporary Color Guide,” exploring how controlled color contributes to modern living. About the Circle City Industrial Complex Artists
The Circle City Industrial Complex (CCIC) is a nearly half-million square foot industrial building, located at 1125 Brookside Ave., and was formerly home to the Schwitzer automotive company. Its industrial appeal remains and artists and artisans have made the space their home, carving cozy studio, work, and show spaces from the concrete and steel structure, and the CCIC Artists have grown in number to over 50 galleries, individual artists and artisans. The main artist entries are the North Studios entrance and the South Studios entrance, each marked with signage along Brookside Avenue. The CCIC provides free parking in a large lot, and is accessible by the Pogue’s Run Trail, connecting to the Monon Trail and the downtown Cultural Trail system. The complex also offers other art-supporting destinations such as the Centerpoint Brewery, Lick Ice Cream, and Ruckus Makerspace.
