The Harrison Center presents Emerald City, our annual color-themed show with an artist reception from 6 to 10pm on Friday, December 1. Now in its 16th year, this holiday tradition is the Harrison Center’s biggest group show of the year. See the work of over 60 local artists in emerald and every other shade of green (and maybe a nod or two to The Wizard of Oz). December 1 is also the last of our four 2017 open studio nights, so as you explore the Harrison Center, be sure to look for our 36 artists who will welcome you into their workspaces.
The City Gallery is pleased to present From Dusk to Dawn, new work by pastel artist, Kristin Divers. Divers, a Pittsburgh native who divides her time between her hometown and Indianapolis, focused on Indy cityscapes for this show.
The Speck Gallery will feature work by Nathan Foxton. A 2D artist working primarily as an oil painter, he also works in collage, photography, digital collage, acrylic, gouache, and drawing mediums. In undergrad he immersed himself in the idea that painting could be a powerful tool in creating a connection with place: culturally, historically, physically, ideologically, and with nature. In graduate school, he says, “I couldn’t ‘land’ in the same way and I had to confront what it was that fascinated me about painting itself. I’m now figuring out how to collide themes of invention and discovery with an observed space. My practice grounds me in active engagement.”
The INDIEana Handicraft Exchange returns with its annual holiday show in the gym and Underground from 5:00 to 10:00pm. The IHE is a contemporary craft fair that consciously celebrates modern handmade goods, the relationship between creator and consumer, and local, alternative economies. With dozens of vendors, this is the perfect opportunity to get a head start on holiday shopping. As in previous years, the first 100 attendees to sign in at the Yelp! table will receive free swag bags with goodies and discounts from vendors and other local businesses.
Returning for the third year is the Harrison Center’s Holiday Window Tour. Grab a complimentary cup of coffee or hot chocolate and take a tour around the building where our artists have created window installations that harken back to the days when downtown department stores like L.S. Ayres created magical window displays for the holidays.
In the historic sanctuary, enjoy the sounds of the holiday with performances by the Indiana Choral Artisans and Nathan Partain and Friends.
