Melissa Fraterrigo is the author of the novel Glory Days (University of Nebraska Press, 2017), which was named one of “The Best Fiction Books of 2017” by the Chicago Review of Books as well as the short story collection The Longest Pregnancy (Livingston Press, 2006). Her fiction and nonfiction has appeared in more than forty literary journals and anthologies from storySouth and Shenandoah to Notre Dame Review, Sou’wester and The Millions. She is the founder and executive director of the Lafayette Writers’ Studio in Lafayette, Indiana, where she teaches classes on the art and craft of writing.
Allyson Horton is a native of Indianapolis, Indiana. She graduated from Indiana University and received her MFA in Creative Writing from Butler University. Her poetry has been published in the anthology Turn the Page and You Don’t Stop! Sharing Successful Chapters in Our Lives with Youth and also featured in The Wabash Watershed a journal highlighting six Indiana women poets, Not Like the Rest of Us: An Anthology of Contemporary Indiana Writers, and most recently, It Was Written: Poetry Inspired by Hip Hop (Arcana Press). Her work will also be featured in the upcoming anthology: Brilliant Fire! a collection of literature on the life and legacy of Amiri Baraka. Her debut, Quick Fire, published by Third World Press, Foundation (Chicago, Illinois) will be available in February 2018. Currently, she resides in her hometown of Indianapolis.
Open mic sign up will be availalbe at the event. Please limit your selected reading to no longer than 3 minutes. The open mic is multi-genre. Prose, poetry, spoken word, and experimental verse all welcome!
