IGS promotes the growing, harvesting, and use (functional or decorative) of all types of gourds. Some gourds are left plain, some are decorative, and others are fine works of art rivaling fine vases. Decorative techniques used are painting, staining, pen and ink, cutting, carving, gouging, pyrography, weaving, knotting, netting, beading, decoupaging, inlay, clay, metallic leafing, and wax art.
