The Arts Council of Indianapolis is seeking community members living in Indianapolis/Marion County who are interested in volunteering their time to serve on panels that will select artists or proposals for future public art.  Volunteer community panelists will work alongside visual arts professionals, and will participate in influencing the course of public art in the city. The time commitment is estimated to be in three-hour blocks, most likely between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm, no more than two or three times a year.

If accepted, volunteer community panelists will remain in an “on call” pool for a three-year period and will be assigned to project selection panels based on the nature of each project and its match with the community representative’s knowledge, geography and preferences.  Selection panelists will receive about 6-8 weeks’ notice of a panel meeting.

Panelists may also be asked to participate in focus groups to help assess current public art programming or consult on potential new public art programs or services.

Experience and/or a strong interest in one or more of the following subjects is desirable, but not required:

  • Urban and/or neighborhood life
  • Art, architecture, design, or engineering
  • Equity and accessibility
  • Community activism
  • Land use decisions
  • Public transit
  • Construction and/or fabrication

For additional information or to indicate interest, please email Julia Moore, Director of Public Art, Arts Council of Indianapolis, jmoore@indyarts.org and ask for an application form.
