This exhibition showcases several formats of Chinese painting that can be experienced personally. These include album leaves meant to be held in the hand or pages turned on a table; to fans that were carried on one’s person, unfolded and enjoyed at one’s leisure; and hand scrolls meant to be unrolled at the most two feet at a time. These intimate formats allowed one to bring nature close at hand.
While visiting the exhibition, learn about Chinese calligraphy by watching a video demonstration by the artist Ching-Chang (C.C.) Chen and then trying your hand at making basic characters.
