Art & Soul: Taylar Green, featured Dance Artist

Presented by Indy Arts Council at Indianapolis Artsgarden

Taylar Green began her dance training in Mobile, Alabama at Carol Graham School of Dance. Later she attended Alabama School of Fine Arts as a dance major. She trained under Maria Berica Dalla Vecchia in Vicenza, Italy before relocating to Indianapolis. In 2009, Green began her dance journey with Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre (GHDT) as a student of the Academy where she studied ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, Bollywood, and traditional Kathak. Green was also a member of G2, the pre-professional company for three years before graduating from high school. Green also participated in summer intensives with The Ailey School Fellowship Program where she trained in Horton, Graham, and Dunham modern techniques. In the spring of 2016, she graduated from Texas Christian University where she worked with choreographers such as Jacques d’Amboise, Christian Von Howard, and Charlotte Boye-Christensen, while honing her training in ballet and pointe.

Green is in her first season with Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre where she has performed notable GHDT works such as Between Heaven & Earth, SUPERHERO: The story of a man called Jesus, and the title role of Marilyn Monroe in The Scarlet Letter. Recently she performed and taught in Mumbai, India for the World Dance Congress with GHDT. As a Featured Artist for Art & Soul 2017, Green plans to bring to life this year’s theme of Lift Your Voice through dances of Love, Simplicity, and Hope. With a combination of self-choreographed, contemporary-modern works and Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre repertoire, she hopes to leave the audience with something beautiful to remember and inspire them to keep being the change they wish to see in the world.
