See BTI debut an original version of this ballet based on the classic French fairy tale and set to Canadian composer Glenn Buhr’s dynamic score performed live on piano.
Ballet Theatre of Indiana’s original Beauty and the Beast will be performed at the Basile Theatre at the Historic Athenaeum March 31-April 1st. This full-length ballet is based on the original fairy tale, “La Belle et La Bête,” with a sound score created by Canadian Composer Glenn Buhr and performed live by two pianists.
Buhr created the score in 2006 for the Royal Birmingham Ballet, and it has been little used by companies since then.
“It’s not that new full-length story ballets aren’t being made—a lot of choreographers are tackling full lengths—the problem is that other companies don’t then license those ballets. Scores like Buhr’s need to proliferate so we can grow the art form as a whole.” said Matheson.
