Hendricks Symphony Presents 'Christmas Classics'

Presented by Hendricks Symphonic Society at Avon Middle School North

The Hendricks Symphony Orchestra and Chorus under the direction of Benjamin G. Del Vecchio, with the Children’s Ballet of Danville will present a holiday concert of Christmas classics on Friday, December 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 17 at 3 p.m. at Avon Middle School North (1251 N. Dan Jones Rd, Avon.)

The Orchestra and chorus open the concert with Mendelssohn’s beautiful “Von Himmel Hoch.” The chorus is then highlighted for several selections including “O Magnum Mysterium” and “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah. Completing the first half of the program, The Children’s Ballet, Danville, joins the orchestra to perform several dances from Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker.” The dances include Lighting of the Christmas Tree, the Spanish, Arabian, and Chinese dances, along with several others. This famous ballet is never complete without the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” and “Waltz of the Flowers,” and the Hendricks Symphony will not disappoint.

Following intermission, the Hendricks Symphony Orchestra and Chorus perform several familiar Christmas pieces, both classical and modern, including Prokofiev’s “Troika,” “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson, and “White Christmas.”
