Start off your new year right at the Harrison Center! Join us for Chill, an artist reception on Friday, January 5, from 6 to 9pm. In the Harrison Gallery, Elizabeth Smith presents My Tour de France, a body of work comprised of paintings and installation work created with beaded “snowflakes” that mimic the intricate painted patterns. Smith visited France four times over the last two years. “My Tour de France” was directly inspired by the Mathias Grunewald altarpiece that I saw in Colmar in the Alsatian region in 2016 . . . The work “is intended to be like a treasure chest filled with French iconography . . . I make art that has complexity on a number of levels and is not meant to have one point of focus. I make art that I find beautiful and I am continuing to look for the elusive promise that each piece has when I start it, but I know can never really be achieved.”

Speck Gallery presents Pictured Rocks, an Interplay between Photography and Abstract Art by Bartosz Pietrzak. Of the work, Pietrzak explains, “the essence of these photographs is not to show how beautiful that place is; that has already been done in millions of pictures taken there every year.  What I’m trying to find out is what makes us perceive those unusual rocks as beautiful, get closer to the quintessence of this beauty embedded in that spellbound lakeshore.  By experimenting outside the safe academic routine of landscape photography I am trying to expand its expressive strength beyond its traditional esthetic and decorative function.”

The City Gallery gets an arctic blast with a winter landscape show featuring work by Benny Sanders, Alicia Zanoni, Jingo de la Rosa, Kyle Ragsdale, Justin Vining, Jed Dorsey, Allen Bannister, Mike Sinon and more.

In the Gallery Annex, Interesting Artifacts includes work by Daniel Moosbrugger, Jude Odell, Johnny McKee, Crystal Vicars-Pugh, Kipp Normand, Katrina Valuyeva, and Blaire Orcutt.

On the lower level, the Underground Gallery features Endless Indiana, an open-ended aesthetic and compositional exploration of south-central Indiana by photographer Adam Reynolds. Kat Silver’s Whimsical Wonders, a collection of oil and acrylic paintings, will be on display in Hank & Dolly’s Gallery.

Outside the building, January 5th will be the last opportunity to experience our Holiday Window Tour.

The work hangs through January 26.
