For the Bird, by noted Indianapolis sculptor and Herron professor Gary Freeman, entered the collection of the Indianapolis Art Center in 1994 as a gift from Peter and Jeannine Basquin.
Freeman (1937-2014) continually experimented with abstract form, scale, and structure in his work. For the Bird, if seen outside of its usual context, seems more monumental than its actual size.
