The title references language used by newscasters as they rush from story to story– leaving very little time for contemplation of dramatic events. Johnson’s paintings reflect the fractured way in which we receive information about our world.
–Resilient, a group photo exhibit in the City Gallery. In collaboration with IUPUI’s Polis Center, a group of photographers document what religion looks like in Indianapolis; focusing on the ways in which various faiths have responded to societal change in recent years. The photographs touch on themes of racial injustice, LGBTQ+ rights, COVID response, and income inequality.
–Architecture of Light by Tai Lipan in the Gallery Annex. Lipan layers wood and flashe paint on panel to create a collection that centers around the dramatic collision of weather, light, and landscape.
-An exhibit of graphic scores & interactive sound art by Gabrielle Cerberville, Rob Funkhouser, and William Peacock in the Speck Gallery. This show explores the creative potential found at the intersection of music and visual art.
–Shadow Pass Mobile Community by Chad Campbell in the Hank & Dolly’s Gallery. Chad Campbell’s wire figures tell a story of an imaginary community of flying characters, installed with motors and lighting to cast dramatic shadows in the gallery.
–Reimagining the Quotidian by Charles Yang and Lesley Ackman in the Underground Gallery. This series of photographic work in color and monochromic prints skillfully presents the artists’ careful framing of the mundane, and sometimes monotonous, through the camera lenses to portray the everyday in a thought-provoking way.
All shows will open at 6 pm Friday, August 5th.
In-person gallery tours will open for visitors Monday-Friday from 9 am – 5 pm. Online galleries will open on August 6th. Make an appointment or view the online galleries at harrisoncenter.org/buy-art.
Special Senior Hours are every Friday from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. No appointment is needed.
