Inspiration for the Wall of Hope began with local youth voices expressing a desire for public art to highlight mental health awareness. Upstream Prevention commissioned talented local artist Patrick Tisdale for this project after securing a location in downtown Franklin on the Sharp Graphics building.
While moments of darkness are a part of the human experience of life, the light will return, and hope is always available through connection and resources. The vision for the Wall of Hope is to serve as a reminder to reach out for connection, but also for everyone to reach out to those who may be struggling. The mural highlights 988, the Suicide and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline Number, and encourages viewers to call 24/7 for support. This art represents several of the Eight Dimensions of Wellness, as well as having “hidden” symbols and nods to mental health.
About the Artist
Patrick Tisdale graduated from the Herron School of Art in 2002, and currently shares a studio in Franklin, Indiana with three other artists.  Patrick also serves as the co-creator & board president of Creative Council Franklin, an organization focused on facilitating and growing the arts scene in Franklin.  Patrick has also served on many committees and teams to help bring public art to fruition throughout Johnson County. The Wall of Hope mural represents Patrick’s desire for public art to be timely, meaningful, and fun to look at.
