Butler Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble presents Director Grechesky’s retirement concert with a program filled with musical friends. On the program is the Symphony No. 19 by Nicolai Miaskowsky. Played by the Butler Band on Grechesky’s first concert at Butler 41 years ago, it seems fitting that this composition should be on his closing concert as well. Also on the program is the timeless classic, Lincolnshire Posy, by Percy Grainger, the premiere of a new piece dedicated to the memory of Grechesky’s father by the exciting young composer Miho Sasaki, and the Indiana premiere of the Concerto for Tuba and Wind Ensemble by Dana Wilson, commissioned by a consortium of university bands including the Butler Wind Ensemble, and featuring guest artist Tony Kniffen, tubist of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
