2019 Carmel Film Forum, Making the Big Picture

The afternoon session will begin at 12:30 pm with a table read of Indiana filmmaker James E. Moriarty’s new feature screenplay, Ghost from the River, by local and national professional actors. Following the table read, Eric Wayne Key, founder of Digipitch, will demonstrate his free online screenwriting and film pitching platform. Using the Ghost from the River feature screenplay as an example, Eric will discuss the development of a film’s log-line and tagline which are used to market films.

Rachel Murphy, a professional line producer based in Indiana, will show how to break down the film’s budget to reflect the real-life costs of producing a feature film, as well as the process of developing the film’s business plan and crowdfunding campaign. A short crowdfunding video for Ghost from the River will be screened at the conclusion of the afternoon session, and the director will discuss how and why the video was created.

The evening session will focus on screening of four short movies by Midwestern women filmmakers, whether as Director, Writer, Director of Photography or Producer. The filmmakers are scheduled to attend the event and offer a Q&A session after the screening. Rachel Murphy will curate and present the screenings and will lead the attending filmmakers in a live Q&A with the audience.

The event is FREE and open to the public. Participants will receive a printed curriculum.
