Stutz Artists Association opens application process for
2019-20 Stutz Residency Program
The Stutz Artists Association board of directors has opened the application process for the 2019-20 Stutz Residency program. The program, established in 1996, boasts over 30 alumni residents and is one of the largest awards for visual artists in central Indiana. Alumni residents who continue to live, work and contribute to the Indianapolis arts community include: Greg Hull (1997), associate professor of sculpture at Herron School of Art and Design, whose works can be seen at the Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis Airport, Newfields and Indianapolis Museum of Art; Patrick Flaherty (2009), president and executive director of the Indianapolis Art Center; and Kyle Ragsdale (2010), curator of the Harrison Art Gallery.
About the Residency Program
The Stutz Artists Residency program is exclusively funded by artists for artists. The annual Stutz Artists Association Spring Open House serves to raise funds to support the resident’s lease of a dedicated studio space for the selected resident artist. The 2019-20 Stutz Residency will be awarded to one Indianapolis area emerging artist who has produced a body of conceptually grounded work in the past three years. The award will be granted to an artist who demonstrates dedication and skill in their area of emphasis, and who provides a compelling narrative of their artistic endeavors, goals, and aspirations.
The award includes professional development and mentoring. The selected resident will benefit from monthly one-on-one mentoring with long-standing professional Stutz artists, and a mid-term critique with the Stutz Artists Association membership. A final exit presentation by the resident artist will provide the public with an opportunity to learn about the development of the artist’s work while in residence. Interested and qualified artists are invited to complete an initial questionnaire by July 20. Qualified applicants will receive a submission package.
