Square Cat Vinyl is looking for volunteer artists interested in doing mural work on the buildings in their alley before Back Alley Ballyhoo 2019 psychedelic music festival. They are planning to do all space-themed work in the alley. If you have an interest in doing a piece in the next few weeks contact patrick@squarecatvinyl.com. The event is Sep 6-7, so the work needs to be done before then.
There is no budget for this. Square Cat may be able to help cover supplies.

Hello,
As an art teacher and advocate for artists I am very disappointed that Square Cat would not budget something for artists to do work for them. As an art teacher and advocate for artists I am very disappointed that Square Cat would not budget something for artists to do work for them. Building the skills necessary to complete a mural takes a lifetime and requires great monetary and time sacrifices on behalf of the artist. A mural on the side of your businesses attracts business to you and therefore you stand to profit from this artists work. In addition, if you do happen to get artists to work for free, it is not only damaging to that artist but to all local artists as it sets a new, low, and incredibly damaging norm for pricing. If you value arts, I politely implore you to reconsider your budget and offer to pay artists who work for you. Finally, I’ll leave you a link to one of many articles about pricing illustration that expands on some of the points. If you’re interested in speaking more about this I would love to chat.
