I am primarily a sculpture artist working with steel & mixed media. I enjoy creating organic, contemporary forms and figurative forms. Women are strong, elegant, AND beautiful. I love that I can convey that in the medium I have chosen. In addition to sculpture I also do something I call a botanical collage. I add physical plants to my acrylic paintings & seal them. They have various particles in them that capture the light. I try to make my paintings come to life with this process. As a light source travels across my work it is illuminated in different areas, perhaps mimicking the sun. Artists have imitated nature & plant life for centuries, I actually preserve & enhance it.

Shelby Alexander

Shelby graduated from the University of Notre Dame where she studied studio art. She also received a certificate in fashion design from Pratt Institute in NYC and participated in a studio residency program at the South Bend Museum of Art. Growing up in a family of artists, I began painting at an early age. I am passionate about children’s literature and believe illustrations are a wonderful way to expose a child to fine art. In addition to maintaining an independent art studio in Butler Tarkington, I work as a commercial interior designer and have extensive experience with public space design.

Kaila Austin

Kaila Austin is a painter and mixed media artist based out of Indianapolis, Indiana. She has been a participant in Murals for Racial Justice with the Arts Council of Indianapolis and has been interviewed for several magazines emphasizing Black arts and culture across the United States. Currently, she has a painting studio located at 201 Studios, where she also works as a bookbinder and printmaker. Austin works primarily in mixed media portraiture, focusing on the ways in which the arts can humanize Blackness after centuries of visual culture that has been subversive and noxious. Working traditionally in oil portraits, she has spent the last year expanding her work into mixed media loosen the rigidity tied to classical notions of what art is supposed to be. She primarily uses community members from around Indianapolis as the subject of her work, seeking to elevate everyday people and common people to the grandeur of historical narrative paintings.

Taylor Bamgbose

Taylor Bamgbose is a predominantly self-taught artist located in Indianapolis and working out of Lost Dog Gallery on Indy’s Near Eastside (1040 E. New York St.) She uses oils and acrylics to create bold, colorful, figurative paintings that help her audience engage with the inner world of their thoughts and emotions. She also collaborates with clients to create custom paintings for personal and professional interiors, including abstract work and select portraiture.

Teresa Barber

After a career in Marketing, Advertising and now Information Technology, Teresa is finally devoting her spare time to art with plans to eventually transition to full time “arting”. Attending Herron School of Art 28 years ago was the highlight of her life but two daughters, who are the joys of her life, and her corporate career beckoned. With a recent move from the suburbs to Emerson Heights, her friendships with artists greatly expanded. The newly formed group, the Eastside Art Collective, has provided both inspiration and support to encourage Teresa to finally get back to creating art. Squeezing art into your evenings and weekends is no small feat. Now with her own studio at 201 Studios in Indianapolis, she is working more and more.

Tasha Beckwith

Tasha Beckwith is an Indianapolis-based visual artist. She studied painting and drawing at the Herron School of Art & Design, IUPUI, but honed her skills in graphic design and digital art on her own. Her portrait-based work combines expressionism, realism, and surrealism and she cites science fiction, fantasy, and Afrocentric themes as her inspirations. Recent work includes billboards encouraging participation in the 2020 census, participation in an artistic campaign encouraging people to #MaskUpIndy, and the neighborhood history mural inside the brand-new Martindale-Brightwood branch of the Indianapolis Public Library. Beckwith works in a variety of media including digital design, oil painting, and resin.

McKayla Bensheimer

McKayla Bensheimer is a sculptor and printmaker. She was raised in Franklin, Indiana and currently resides in Indianapolis, where she attends Herron School of Art and Design as a BFA candidate for sculpture. Bensheimer is interested in depicting the human experience through figural sculpture and portraiture in a variety of materials such as clay, steel, bronze, and two-dimensional mediums. Bensheimer has shown her work around the Indianapolis area. Her public works include a collaboration for a walkway mosaic installed in front of the Irvington Public Library.

Katherine Musser Berry

My name is Katherine Musser Berry, but my friends and family mostly all call me Kally. I have been sketching and messing with paints for as long as I can remember, but have been selling paintings and working with The Art Bank Gallery since the summer of 2009. I love to create. My paintings are almost always acrylic or oil on canvas, but occassionally I mess around with watercolors and mixed media. I grew up in Fishers, started school at St. Mary of the Woods College, then moved downtown Indianapolis to attend school at IUPUI. I ended up graduating with a B.A. in Communication Studies, and a Minor in Psychology. My husband and I have renovated two houses on the Near-West side, and I really have a heart for the change and growth the Near-West side of Indianapolis is experiencing. Painting is a hobby for me, however, since I gave birth to my son, William, I have been able to devote a lot more time to painting.

Cynthia Blasingham

A recent Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship recipient, Indianapolis based artist Cynthia Blasingham has shown her work in over 125 exhibits, including over 65 national, regional, and state juried shows and 20 one- and two-person shows. She is a signature member of Watercolor Society of Indiana, an elected member of Indiana Artists Club, and an exhibiting member of the Kentucky Watercolor Society. In addition to years on the Boards of Directors, she has served as Chairman of the Board for CCA Gallery several times and as President of Watercolor Society of Indiana twice. She is a founding member of INprint, a group of regional printmakers based in Central Indiana, and has served as its Chairman for the past five years. Her work is shown through the Hoosier Salon Gallery in Broad Ripple Village. Her work is in private, corporate, and public collections. While exploring art from before kindergarten to high school, she also pursued a career in her other love, the biological sciences, earning a B.A. in Zoology from Duke University, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Physiology from the Indiana University Medical Center, and doing medical research and teaching. In mid-life she returned to art school, obtaining a Diploma in Fine Arts from the Indianapolis Art Center, and began a second career as a fine artist. My work is an exploration of the visual texts that exist in the conscious and unconscious mind-texts that speak to the personal experience of this artist, but connect too with the larger social, political, cultural milieu in which the personal is lived. I paint primarily figurative work with a strong conceptual sensibility in the traditional medium of oil on canvas, but my work is informed by the way current technologies like the Internet combine the audio/visual, written expression, commercial graphics, and even film to explore human experience.

Artist Statement: Intuition is a guiding hand in my decision making process, from color schemes to composition and subject matter. I draw how I feel, and hidden meaning often lurks behind surfaces of oil paint, charcoal, graphite, and other various media. My hands are often my main instrument, bridging the intimate connection between maker and creation. Each work fluctuates in style, just as my day to day mood and demeanor do. My art is a refusal to remain stagnant; each piece a subconscious megaphone for my feelings, coupling dull colors with vibrant, intense hues. There is intention in each movement– even chaos can be calculated.

Roy Boswell is an American Impressionist artist, who creates, teaches, and helps others bring their visions to life. Artists seem to be endowed with perceptual understandings that go beyond merely seeingthings. As an artist I want to offer the viewer more than a recording or a photographic likeness of a visual scene. I wish to expose the mysterious depths that lie beneath. If I am successful, then my viewer can look into as well as look at my painting. Rather than just seeing an old man walking the hilly roads of Ireland, I want to present his story to the viewer. My use of colors, values, temperatures and edges allow my viewer a glimpse of what is beyond the obvious. By looking into my painting, the viewer can vicariously experience the dedication and drudgery of the Irish peasant as he totes a bundle of hay up and down the cold damp hills, and possibly imagine what it feels like to be in this old man’s muddy Wellington boots as he takes his daily trod. The viewer not only sees the visual scene but also may smell the moist hay, feel the cold wind, and perhaps hear the soulful tune that resonates within.

Kylin Brown is an Indiana born artist currently residing in Plainfield, IN. She attended Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis where she earned her Associates in Fine Art degree. While her personal work is mainly oil paintings, Kylin enjoys incorporating charcoal and graphite into her work as creating window displays and public art. When she is not working in her studio, sharing her love for art with kids of all ages, or creating public art, Kylin enjoys yoga and staying active with her two children. She is excited to be one of the artists chosen for the 2020 Indy Art & Seek program and looks forward to creating an “intervention” somewhere in the city.

Justin Brown is a multidiscipline contemporary artist and curator. He is a native Hoosier and Cathedral graduate. Justin was an original founder and curator of Future Friends Holographic Magic Club in Fountain Square, IN. He is the founder and executive director of Hoy Polloy Art Gallery at 3125 E. 10th St, Indianapolis, IN. Justin was also the curator and director of Re:Public; a partnership between Indianapolis Contemporary and Hoy Polloy, which closed in April 2020 with the closing of Indianapolis. His visual work focuses primarily on federal and private surveillance data analytics, public and private scientific institutional research, federal and municipal law enforcement investigations, congressional investigation committees, historical documentarian texts, forced perspective, cognitive dissonance, and color theory.

Marie Broyer

Broyer’s art career began in a formalized elementary education art program in Evansville, IN. In addition, throughout her early learning and primary education, Marie was offered participation in specialty art programs within the public-school systems and the local community. Nearing the end of high school, she chose to finish her curriculum at the inaugural charter “Signature School.” Furthermore, with the availability of this new artistic program, she focused her studies on contemporary art and editorial content. Most of all, Broyer won numerous awards for editorial illustration and content. In addition, was granted the opportunity as a high school student to participate in the juried Oakland City College (now Oakland City University) Art Exhibit. Thus, she participated in her first exhibit and at the age of seventeen and awarded a college level honorable mention. During this time, The University of Southern Indiana (USI) School of Liberal Arts Board of Directors selected (Stonestreet) Broyer as a recipient for a full liberal arts scholarship. While at USI, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Arts majoring in Advertising and Public Relations and focused on fine arts and marketing. Then, she studied under the artist in residence, Ms. Judy Chicago, in New Harmony, IN and traveled the country. Primarily, she studied the artists of the modern and impressionistic movement. Most of all, Broyer found herself inspired by the Impressionist and Fauvist movements. “In essence the movement is a realist perspective through the eyes of the artist, not a photograph.” Furthermore, she seized those concepts and built her own style through creating layers of texture, line and color. Now, she applies her formal training through working in commercial art, digital marketing communications and as an educator teaching adult and youth art classes in her country-side studio. In addition, she continues to learn and expand her knowledge base to further enhance the artist community. In conclusion, Marie currently resides in Central Indiana working in the fine art and the marketing communications industry. For over two decades, she continues to grow as a professional fine artist and individual. Broyer’s representation spans regional museums, private shows, public exhibitions and juried fairs. Contributing the donation of time and art to public service initiatives, she adds her flair of unique business initiatives and an artistic perspective to the local community.
