My life is a very diverse book of many pages. For this, we shall begin, when my Artistic Me, began. In Dec of 2009 I became a victim of a violent crime. I had to undergo numerous surgeries, one of which was to save fingers on both hands. After months of therapy and searching for ways to get me to want to use my hands properly, I was given a camera. A light turned on in my soul. I started seeing and noticing things I never took the time to see before. Through all the hardships I have endured, the one blessing I hold onto is the chance to meet all the great and amazing clients, artists and supporters I have gotten to meet. Before, had I died, I would have been thought of as a good father, productive member of society and so on. Now, i get to help people leave their mark, their legacy, upon the World through my photography. With many remarks of contemporary art, her style leaves much to the imagination, brings a lot of contemplation, and creates a narrative behind every piece with a connection to its name. Makayla Harrison
Artist of Color; Black/African American; Ethnic Art; Multi Arts; Visual Arts: Media and Visual Communications, Mixed Media, New Media/Technology, Painting
As an art-technologist I use art & technology to create content and immersive technology about entrepreneurship, cultural value, self-discovery & renewable-sustainable technology & lifestyle through virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality & integrated LEDs. My interest in spatial computing started from painting. My previous background is painting and still is. As a painter I paint the universe in all of my paintings. The universe represents an expanding of the unknown or massive amount of potential that we just don’t have access to yet. This narrative could also be said about humanity and people. We all have unknown potential that we are not aware of and have not tapped into to access. Our genius within us. From painting the universe, I also understood that “Creation Is When Art & Science Meet” the slogan of ArtisScience22 an art & technology platform I created. The scientific process is birth through imagination and creativity to solve problems. To sustain creativity, one must use science. At this point, I took online classes to become an electrical engineer and creating the hardware lead me to a more creative process through expression of technology called virtual reality or spatial computing. All of my paintings, software, and hardware are engineered to create value and equity around the black experience to enhance the potential of humanity.

My creative art style is very unique, I integrate visuals from past artist experts in impressionism, representational, faces, landscapes, nature/outdoors visuals with added twists of vibrant colors. Painting from the heart is always involved in the visuals I create. The majority of what I put on canvas has mixed media, texture, full of life and color, allowing an exciting viewing experience for all audiences. I have a strong work ethic and still value organization, uniform, consistency, and being prompt as well as prepared. Following the values of running a corporation allows me to thrive effectivity in my arts continuously creating beautiful visuals of free will, a smile to go along with painting is what I do best.

Kiana Renee Ricks (Kee-Auna Reh-Nay Riks) goes by Ki; the creator of Ki Re Abstracts, LLC. A gifted artist out of Indianapolis, Indiana. She first fell in love with art at the tender age of 8. She was first introduced to sketch drawings by her late brother, Wilson L. Ricks II, who took time to teach the young Ki the basics of art. “Yeah, my brother was the best! He would draw Superman, Scooby-Doo crew, and Run DMC (a well known 80’s hip-hop group),” she laughed. “I learned a lot of things from him.” Ki Ricks attended IPS #106 where her crafty abilities were nourished by a stellar teacher named Gloria Jones. “Ms. Jones truly took me under her wing and encouraged full expression through my creative characteristics.” Every summer, Ki Ricks was entered into the 4-H contest held at the Indiana State Fair, placing 1st and 2nd place in nearly every competition. By the 6th grade, Ki was accepted into the Shortridge Middle School magnet program for visual arts. There she studied various artistic mediums such as drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts, printmaking, and photography. “Although I studied all techniques, soulful abstracts have always been my preference. In fact, one of my illustrations won a school contest! My work was hung on display and remained there years after I graduated.” In 1992, Ki Ricks painted an exhibit for Indiana Health Department. It was displayed at Indianapolis Black Expo. She continued to take art classes throughout High School, but later took a 20 year hiatus after entering the United States Navy. “I just wanted to express myself differently in my early adult life. I think we all go through that in life. You know? I felt it was time to focus on my second love, poetry.” With things being what they were, she assumed the pseudonym, “Kesha Poetrynmotion.” The then very shy spoken word artist emerged on the local scene doing open mics, openings for showcases, and fashion shows. She also recorded a CD and was featured on song tracks. “That was a very liberating period for me. Not only was I sharing my words with the world, but I was actually being heard.” Today, Ki Ricks, is getting back to her roots and first love, visual arts. She is presently using her gifts to launch Ki Re Abstracts, LLC, a company that is geared toward one’s appeasement of unique, distinctive, and stimulating fancy.

    Stacey Torres
Artist of Color; Black/African American; Ethnic Art; Visual Arts: Mixed Media, Painting, Portrait, Works on paper; Fauvism
Born in Jamaica, NY in 1953, Stacey Torres is an African American folk artist and writer living in New Castle, IN. Her primary focus are unique women in natural settings. She paints with an abundance of brilliant color using different media, including watercolor, oil pastels, and acrylics, inspired by her Caribbean heritage. As a self-taught artist, Ms. Torres’ love of painting began at a very early age. In the summer of 2014, she began to create again after a 40 year hiatus. Spending hours with her mother, who was in her final stages of Alzheimer’s, Stacey began to paint her thoughts and emotions, with images to help her mother remember some things. Her artwork became therapy for her and comfort to her mother. “When the word, “artist” began to appear behind my name, I embraced my lost gift, and paint life as I see it. Art is just an exercise in emotional expression — a way of holding onto things from the past — documenting visions, impressions and dreams. I could write a journal or blog, however, my visions needed to be seen and felt … At times, I feel messages from beyond, like small glimpses of my past as ancestral folktales emerge with splashes of color on canvas. These primitive images of pleasingly imperfect subjects are bits of me; things I’m compelled to recapture. I suppose I’m guilty of living through my art by proxy.” Stacey Torres Exhibits & Awards: Recipient of Indiana Lt. Governor & State Treasurer Hoosier Women Artists 2016; Richmond Art Museum’s Holiday Art Mart; Whitewater Valley Arts Association Regional Exhibit 2015 (Advanced Merit Award), and 2016; Art Association of Henry County’s 50th Annual Fall Show; Flava Fresh 12 (Annual Juried Multi-Art Exhibition Presentation Series of Contemporary Art in Indianapolis, IN); Hoosier Women In Art 2016 (Indy Parks Dept.); Twitter Art Show NYC 2016; Will Vawter Art Show, Hancock Art Association 2016; Naturally Inspired Paint-Out, Indianapolis Zoo 2016; Inspired by Dreams Exhibit 2015, Indiana Interchurch Center; and most notably, her art was featured on CBS TV’s Criminal Minds (Season 10).
