OFF-CAMPUS PROGRAMS
2011 May Term Traditional Arts of Turkey
Turkey
I led this 23-day transect of Turkey to study the breadth and vitality of Turkish copperwork, weaving and pottery. Museums, hands-on workshops and home stays gave students a broad historic and contemporary view of these art forms in Turkish culture.
1999 to 2011 August Wilderness (11 times)
Utah/Ontario
Each summer I have led this 21-day interdisciplinary course for incoming students, which explores wilderness travel, natural history, and human history and literature while backpacking or canoeing in pristine wilderness areas.
2002 (spring) Southwest Field Studies
The American Southwest
Co-led with my wife Linda Jones and Earlham alum James Sterrett this semester-long interdisciplinary off-campus program highlighting issues and relationships of natural history, Native American art, sustainable architecture, and outdoor education in the Southwest, with particular emphasis on how natural history has shaped the indigenous art and architecture of the region.

I have served for many years on this committee, the primary concern of which is periodic policy review and development concerning the acquisition, conservation and de-accession of objects in the college art collection
