Visual Arts: Constructions/Collage, Mixed Media, Painting, Sculpture
I am primarily a sculpture artist working with steel & mixed media. I enjoy creating organic, contemporary forms and figurative forms. Women are strong, elegant, AND beautiful.  I love that I can convey that in the medium I have chosen. In addition to sculpture I also do something I call a botanical collage. I add physical plants to my acrylic paintings & seal them. They have various particles in them that capture the light. I try to make my paintings come to life with this process. As a light source travels across my work it is illuminated in different areas, perhaps mimicking the sun. Artists have imitated nature & plant life for centuries, I actually preserve & enhance it.

My life is a very diverse book of many pages. For this, we shall begin, when my Artistic Me, began. In Dec of 2009 I became a victim of a violent crime. I had to undergo numerous surgeries, one of which was to save fingers on both hands. After months of therapy and searching for ways to get me to want to use my hands properly, I was given a camera. A light turned on in my soul. I started seeing and noticing things I never took the time to see before. Through all the hardships I have endured, the one blessing I hold onto is the chance to meet all the great and amazing clients, artists and supporters I have gotten to meet. Before, had I died, I would have been thought of as a good father, productive member of society and so on. Now, i get to help people leave their mark, their legacy, upon the World through my photography. From an early age, I have always loved and appreciated art and wanted to create my own paintings. I love to create different types of textures in my paintings, and I’m typically drawn to using bright colors. I work mainly with acrylics, watercolor, and also enjoy creating abstract paintings used in mixed media.I live in Fishers with my family. We love to travel so from the Middle East to Europe to Africa, our travels have given me the opportunity to see different sceneries and to use this inspiration in my own work. Nature itself inspires many of my paintings,Natural landscapes help me visualize new shapes and colors, and I love to capture light in different angles.I use my imagination to give the viewer a new way to appreciate nature through my art.

Nobody Can Tell Me What To Do, Not Even Me! There are neither good nor bad subjects. From the point of view of pure Art, you could almost establish it as an axiom that the subject is irrelevant, style itself being an absolute manner of seeing things. Of all lies, art is the least untrue. Anything becomes interesting if you look at it long enough. Gustave Flaubert My name is Gersh and I’m a self-taught well-published Professional Photographer, Artist, Sci-fi & How-To Professional Photography & How-To Art Writer & Designer. I started drawing and painting when I was 3 and the first time I had my photography work published was when I was a very young child. I have never gone to school to study art, writing, design and/or photography, nor have I had anyone teaching me any of the said disciplines. My art work comprises of a very large collection of black and white and color images which have been created by me in various styles, some of which are surrealism, realism, impressionism and other well-known artistic expressions, in addition to those which have been pioneered by me. What sets me apart from all other artists, is not only a distinct style of my work, but also the fact that I work in almost each and every medium and genre and pioneer my own genres. A large portion of my work are storyboards and illustration for books written by me, nevertheless there are also images which are not a part of any project. They say that every image is worth a thousand words and that every image is a story. My art speaks for itself and I’m not here to describe it, because if my images couldn’t speak for themselves and could not tell stories, they wouldn’t be worth of even looking at them, needless speaking of being published and admired by people. My art is not only a product of my knowledge, imagination, but is also a result of experiences achieved through the exploration of various mediums. From pen and Indian ink, charcoal, markers, oil, graphite, acrylics to less known materials, some of which have been created by me. Despite what has been said, I do not stick with any particular style, but on contrary remain a free explorer of various mediums and styles, which leaves me free not to be told what to do, not even by me, but to remain free in my exploration of the ways and choices to achieve an absolute paramount in my artistic-expression!

I am inspired by Eastern and Western cultures, and as a scientist, I take a trial and error approach to making art. I appreciate the beauty of lines, shapes, colors, and space in nature and the man-made world. My art is unique because of my diverse influences and my interest in time, color, and methodology. My work explores organic, deeply textured, and delicate beauty. My art is characterized by linear rhythm, dynamic movement, and varied materials that, along with vibrant colors, create bold compositions. I also like to incorporate a variety of paper and sewing techniques into my paintings, creating a highly textured mixed media work. I work in acrylic, oil, watercolor, collage, mixed media, drawing, ceramics, jewelry, textiles, sewing, crochet, and felting.

I don’t look for a deep meaning in my pieces. Instead I want them to be fun and pleasing to look at.

  • Gretchen 'Copper' Banning
    Gretchen 'Copper' Banning
Performing Arts: Music; Visual Arts: Constructions/Collage, Functional and/or Decorative, Mixed Media, Photography, Sculpture, Textiles
My artist name is Copper. I chose this name only because I was using it as an 'alias' when I was hosting goth parties in the 90s. That is when I started drawing and painting. I signed those works Copper and so I have kept it even though it confuses people. I am also a DJ and go by the name Copper Top, which is another story for another day. I am not a trained artist. My degree was in political science and history. I never even considered art until one day I decided in the 1990s I decided to draw a picture and showed it to my boyfriend. He said to 'give it up'. I hate those words so I kept going anyway. I continued drawing and eventually I moved into collage and painting. By the late 90s I was producing works which incorporated many styles and mediums. I had several small shows in the city in the early 2000's including The Bungalow in Broad Ripple and many coffee shops in the city. In 2002 I decided to leave behind my art to pursuing DJing as my main creative outlet. I decided that someday, when I didn't want to DJ as much, I would come back to my art.  I DJ'd all over the country and the world between 2002 and 2012. I released 6 licensed CDs which were distributed globally. All of this was done on small Indie labels here and in Germany. When I spin now from time to time I play a mix of industrial, psy trance, dark house, and techno. In January 2012 I began to become serious about art again. I brought to it a new confidence in making my own rules. I was also deeply affected by 'The Occupy Movement'.  I was an activist in my college days and worked on many humanitarian causes. I studied political economics and have always leaned to the left, although my current convictions have evolved since those days. I began to marry my concern for global political and environmental crises to my expression through art. I recently published a piece of prose in the Canadian art publication 'Adbusters' and strongly support everything that periodical hopes to accomplish for a better global future. I also very much enjoy creating 'decorative art'. I do this to distract from my gloomy side. I love vintage kitsch and moreover mxing it with other surreal 'childish' decorative objects. I love making diorama. I love spanish and latino style art and am strongly influenced by it. I also enjoy completely remaking large objects like furniture. I have dabbled in  painting, drawing, photography, collage, assemblage, sculpture. I hate making anything more than once. I constantly am looking for some new idea to bring to my art.

Visual Arts: Jewelry, Mixed Media, Painting
Born in Southeastern Michigan, Teri takes her inspiration from the lakes and landscapes of her home state and from quilt makers, both in her family and beyond. Teri often uses a minimalist approach in her paintings, depicting images at their most basic expressions of shape, color, and texture.  The visual tension of rocky lake beds against sandy shores, man-made structures, and bright colored flowers figure prominently in her work. Her paintings have been exhibited in the Indiana State Museum and collected nationally.  They reside in the permanent collections of Eli Lilly, Franklin College, Wellpoint, Rush Shelby Energy, NPCA, and Community Hospital, and others.  In 2007, she was chosen to be one of the featured artists for the Arts Council of Indianapolis’ BeIndypendent campaign kick-off and, in 2008, she was juried into the Indiana Artisan Program.
