Jenna Brock

The search for beauty is why I create. The simple act of production gives me a sense of fulfillment. I currently am trying to locate my voice as an artist by slowly working on a full and complete body of new works. When I create a print I usually have a message I want to convey. Next I brainstorm various images on how to portray that message through visual imagery. My media of choice is woodblock reduction prints. This particular media creates the most wonderful marks, which are created by imperfections in the wood. I consider it a surprise because I am never quite sure how it will look until I am done. I believe that if a work is going well then the piece will come together easily. My current work Out of Reach expresses my thoughts about my spiritual walk and myself as I continually strive for a complete and full life. It expresses my struggles with my faults and my character. In Daughter of Herodias I am exploring strong horizontals and the use of color to show emphasis. This image reflects the power sexual persuasion and pride. The decapitated head is that of John the Baptist who was beheaded after the daughter of Herodias danced for Herod and demanded that John be killed. Since Herod had promised this beautiful anything she wanted he had no choice but to grant her wishes. After these pieces I am ready to take my work to the next level and explore other themes.

I am a painter. I do not reject the term artist, but I believe in it’s present context the title spans much that is of little interest to me. I do not aspire to the idea of artist as arbiter of culture. I do embrace the idea that art can heal, that it can console , that it can show the commonality between us all. My goals are simple: to illuminate aspects of reality via the medium of pigment on canvas. In this regard, the greatest illumination is personal and in my case, arrives at the point where the process of painting begins. My goal is nothing less than liberation. Painting is the process, my transformation is it’s goal. I hope in the journey there are others who may also see, through my work, where I am pointing, but what I seek is not essentially social. Brown’s work focuses on the kinetics of the figure as slow motion events captured in time with blurs of the micro-second. His work explores the lines within the movement of multiple light defining “gray areas” that are, in fact, full of color.

The way we record and disseminate information in the twenty-first century, from Facebook to e-book, is grossly affected by the existence of the Internet. Similarly, the information that we decide to record – the historical remnants of the early decades of this century, both political and cultural – have been invariably molded by how technology has touched our culture’s lives. My paintings and artist books exist as the next form of historical document in observing and recording digital pop culture. ——- Allison Brown is a painter and designer living and working in central Indiana. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1986, Allison spent her formative years in the Indianapolis suburbs reading and drawing in the front covers of said books, save for requisite yearly summer holidays spent at the foothills of the San Francisco Peaks in Flagstaff, Arizona. It wasn’t until her teenage years that she encountered her muse, the Internet, in the form of an AOL subscription. Prior to that moment, her exposure to computers were chiefly comprised ofEncarta 95, extremely floppy discs, and never getting a turn to play Oregon Trail at recess. Allison received her BFA in Painting with Art History minor from the Herron School of Art and Design at IUPUI in Indianapolis, Indiana (2012) and her AA with Studio Arts emphasis from Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri (2007). Awards received include the Paul Zimmerman Memorial Endowment for Scholarship in Painting and acceptance into the Herron School of Art and Design Juried Undergraduate Exhibition for 2010, with her work being shown across the Midwest. Her skills in painting and design have been applied to projects used by Cottey College; The Villages Foster Care, Adoption, and Family Services; the Town of Avon, Indiana; the Mooresville Public Library, Mooresville, Indiana; and Music for All, Inc.

Justin Brown is a multidiscipline contemporary artist and curator. He is a native Hoosier and Cathedral graduate. Justin was an original founder and curator of Future Friends Holographic Magic Club in Fountain Square, IN. He is the founder and executive director of Hoy Polloy Art Gallery at 3125 E. 10th St, Indianapolis, IN. Justin was also the curator and director of Re:Public; a partnership between Indianapolis Contemporary and Hoy Polloy, which closed in April 2020 with the closing of Indianapolis. His visual work focuses primarily on federal and private surveillance data analytics, public and private scientific institutional research, federal and municipal law enforcement investigations, congressional investigation committees, historical documentarian texts, forced perspective, cognitive dissonance, and color theory.

Kylin Brown

Kylin Brown is an Indiana born artist currently residing in Plainfield, IN. She attended Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis where she earned her Associates in Fine Art degree. While her personal work is mainly oil paintings, Kylin enjoys incorporating charcoal and graphite into her work as creating window displays and public art. When she is not working in her studio, sharing her love for art with kids of all ages, or creating public art, Kylin enjoys yoga and staying active with her two children. She is excited to be one of the artists chosen for the 2020 Indy Art & Seek program and looks forward to creating an “intervention” somewhere in the city.

Marie Broyer

Broyer’s art career began in a formalized elementary education art program in Evansville, IN. In addition, throughout her early learning and primary education, Marie was offered participation in specialty art programs within the public-school systems and the local community. Nearing the end of high school, she chose to finish her curriculum at the inaugural charter “Signature School.” Furthermore, with the availability of this new artistic program, she focused her studies on contemporary art and editorial content. Most of all, Broyer won numerous awards for editorial illustration and content. In addition, was granted the opportunity as a high school student to participate in the juried Oakland City College (now Oakland City University) Art Exhibit. Thus, she participated in her first exhibit and at the age of seventeen and awarded a college level honorable mention. During this time, The University of Southern Indiana (USI) School of Liberal Arts Board of Directors selected (Stonestreet) Broyer as a recipient for a full liberal arts scholarship. While at USI, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Arts majoring in Advertising and Public Relations and focused on fine arts and marketing. Then, she studied under the artist in residence, Ms. Judy Chicago, in New Harmony, IN and traveled the country. Primarily, she studied the artists of the modern and impressionistic movement. Most of all, Broyer found herself inspired by the Impressionist and Fauvist movements. “In essence the movement is a realist perspective through the eyes of the artist, not a photograph.” Furthermore, she seized those concepts and built her own style through creating layers of texture, line and color. Now, she applies her formal training through working in commercial art, digital marketing communications and as an educator teaching adult and youth art classes in her country-side studio. In addition, she continues to learn and expand her knowledge base to further enhance the artist community. In conclusion, Marie currently resides in Central Indiana working in the fine art and the marketing communications industry. For over two decades, she continues to grow as a professional fine artist and individual. Broyer’s representation spans regional museums, private shows, public exhibitions and juried fairs. Contributing the donation of time and art to public service initiatives, she adds her flair of unique business initiatives and an artistic perspective to the local community.

My name is Lorenzo Bryant, and I am a self-taught artist. After serving nine years in prison, I came to the conclusion that I didn’t serve the time, time served me. I was able to channel my creative ability and find my passion in being an Artist/Painter. The creative process from sketching the image to painting those fine details is true meditation for me. I hope you too can find joy within my work.

I am a modern impressionistic artist specializing in acrylic paint. I’ve always had a passion for art and creativity ever since I can remember. My uncle Jo was a big part of it. I grew up with him. He was one of the top fashion designers in the Philippines. I often watched him draw and paint and was intrigued. I came to the US at the age of 12 and continued my passion for art in Carmel HS where I took all the art electives I can squeeze in. I dabbled in some art classes in college while figuring out what I really wanted to do. In the process I had a child, got married, and life took me in another direction. I became a nurse. Even then I still continued creating for myself and others. It grew over the years and became my second career. My uncle always said that if you are passionate about something then it will always be a part of you and it will eventually flourish. Like him. I am a person of few words. Art to me has become a way for me to express myself. Most times I do not even know how I feel until I pick up a paintbrush and start painting. My ultimate dream in all of this is to spread beauty to the world one canvas at a time!

What is Quixotic Artistry? It is first and foremost, my brand. It’s whimsy, it’s being able to look failure directly in the eye, and say “f*&# off”, and turn it into success. It’s my past heartbreak, and my feelings of insecurity. Ironically, it is my suit of armour, and my confidence. It is Assemblage, fashion design, makeup artistry, and graphics. It is choreography, it is design. It’s perfect balance. It is the rebirth of my failed attempts at becoming a fashion designer, yet is the new life of a new approach. It is the phoenix, that is rising from the ashes of what I thought to be the end of a journey. Alas, my journey is not over. What is Quixotic | Artistry ? It is whatever that I want it to be, and will be everything that I quixotically dream it to be.

Art gets me out of bed in the morning. Each work begins with the question “What if?”, and then the adventure begins. I studied art at John Herron and Indiana University. Most of my art that is one composition by day and another by night because I incorporate photoluminescent minerals that absorb any visible light and then shed it for 8+ hours when the lights go out. Lydia Burris

Lydia Burris is a mixed media and multi-subject artist. She often compares her work to the sense dreams: a place of ambiguity, emotion and surrealism, peppered with snippets of symbolism and meaning. The mind and how it works is a recurring theme in her artwork. In the studio she experiments with both 2D and 3D mediums. She playfully splatters, scrapes, constructs, destroys, and reconstructs her way through the creative process. Her subjects range from a deep darkness to delightful whimsy. Another of her passions is poetry, often through found and cut text creations. She is a fanatic about sketchbooks, and works in one daily. Her most recent series (2020) involved mixed media collages revolving around the yearning to travel mixed with her love of fantastic people and places. In 2004, 2005 Lydia traveled to Norwich, England where she received her Masters of Fine Art from the Norwich School of Art and Design. She keeps an art studio in Downtown Indianapolis, and teaches studio art part time at Ivy Tech. She shows her work in galleries, participates in art events, and vends at conventions such as GenCon and Horrorhound Weekend. I have always loved the beauty of flowers, and I find great joy in not only giving fresh arrangements to others, but also sharing my floral paintings. I am a watercolor artist, and I enjoy using the paints in unexpected ways to create vibrant, vivid colors on a canvas.

R.A. Buys’ current concentration is on more commercially/public friendly paintings and drawings he calls “Midnight Therapy”, which is what he shows regularly throughout the year. Years ago, he moved into his current house and he had no connection to internet, smart phone, or cable. He started drawing these stream of conscience faces in the late hours of the night, that have evolved over the years and continue to change. While a few of them are actual portraits of existing people, most of them are abstract and void of any recognizable features of a real person. He tries to strip away gender, sex, age, race or any other feature that we tend to intentionally or accidentally judge others on. Matter of fact he likes to look at his drawings as having the skin peeled back and then showing the colors, textures, and patterns that make up a person on the inside. Often, they come across alien. People say that they see African, Aztec, Polynesian and Celtic influences among others in his art; although this is all accidental as he relies on the moment to dictate what the patterns and images will end up looking like. He works in very basic mediums. Oil paint, paint pens, and marking pens. Usually on wood but sometimes canvas, whichever is more available at the moment. He tries to re-purpose old frames or makes basic 60s style student lattice frames to add a little character to the finished product.

Melissa cain

Melissa Cain is an artist living in Avon, Indiana. She studied Graphic Design at International Business College in Indianapolis. After working in Graphic Design for 12 years she decided to pursue her true passion – painting. She has been painting professionally now for five years. She teaches acrylic painting lessons and enjoys mixed media and abstracts when she isn’t teaching. Classes are held in her home as well as at Michael’s in Avon. Diagnosed with epilepsy in 2009, Melissa suffered multiple seizures over a 3 year period. Unemployed and depressed she began painting on a regular basis in June of 2012. She now runs a successful in-home art studio and is seizure free! Painting has been a true blessing and Melissa feels that it actually saved her life! When she’s not teaching a class Melissa really enjoys making Abstract art. She works with many different mediums and likes to use found or repurposed objects in her pieces. These objects are used for adding texture or sometimes as the canvas. Sometimes, the story behind the objects or the piece itself makes the art even more enjoyable. Araceli (Ardee) Camara

Artist Bio Araceli (Ardee) Camara Born in Mexico City, Ardee was inspired by the folk art her birthplace. As a child she visited the University of Mexico City and other locations with her grandfather to see the paintings of Diego Rivera and many others. Before moving to Indianapolis, Los Angeles was her home for many years and there she found inspiration through the Southern California landscape, light and beauty. She atteded the McGroarty Art Center and Brentwood School of Fine Art in California. Her art is always in a state of development, creating paintings with movement and bright colors reminiscent of her heritage and travels. Ardee is now retired, continues to travel and lives in the historical downtown area of Indianapolis, Indiana.

I moved to Indianapolis from the Evansville, IN area in 1990. I have been a freelance fine artist and photographer for over 40 years. I am a certified graphic designer. I work in oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels and collage as well as photography and digital medial. I specialize in portraiture, both human and animal. I love doing all forms of artwork. I was the photographer for The Repertory People of Evansville, a theatre group as well as for the Vets Center of Evansville. I was the Arts Chairman of the Vets Festival ’88 held in Evansville that year. I began selling my work in high school, many long years ago. I reside on the near Eastside with my son and our 2 cats.

Hailing from Indianapolis, Indiana, I moved to France in 2016 and started taking classes at Parsons The New School in Paris. While studying there, I had the opportunity to perform in my professor’s performance art piece at the Nuit Blanche art festival. I returned to Indiana in December of 2017 and focussed on gaining experience and participating in exhibitions. From July-August, 2018, I had a five week long Artist Residency in New Orleans, Louisiana. It resulted in a solo show, for which I examined the prostitutes of the red light district during the birth of Jazz.

Rodrigo Cardoso was born in Portugal and lived most of his life amongst tropical cultures. He’s experienced the African spirit in Angola and South Africa where he lived for a total of 5 years. His most recent years have been amongst the colors and sounds of the Amazon. Rodrigo has always been fascinated by indigenous cultures and he shows it through his work!

Stephanie Carignan

I have been an artist all of my life. As an active painter, since 2007, in the Indianapolis area, I love pulling inspiration from landscapes and cityscapes. Texture is my passion. I work primarily with a pallet knife using acrylic or oil paints on canvas. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ball State University, which is where I fell in love with painting all over again. Studying other artists and growing in my profession, are important to me. The landscapes around me, near and far inspire me. My love for color trends and texture really show through in my work. My style is called Impasto, meaning “thick paint”. I view myself as an Impressionist artist. I first began painting in a “swatch-like” pattern from studying the works of Paul Cezanne during my years in college. And when I paint, everything is quiet and I escape to a place I love. It truly is my calling.
