I’m currently a student at International Business College (IBC). I am a freelance graphic artist, I love working on character art, and concept design work. I’ve done a few logos, and design packages, I love the satisfaction I leave my clients with once they approve of the final iteration. I enjoy knitting, crochet, and embroidery as well. I love how I can weave graphics design into embroidery and how it all falls into place. I enjoy a bit of sewing, though it is a continual learning process for me, so I’m always eager to try new stitches and techniques!

“Our greatest masquerade is that we believe we do not depend on the soil, water and air; that somehow we exist out of Wal-Mart’s. It is a great naiveté that technology, or perhaps even civilization, has convinced us that we are separate from nature. The need to understand American culture and politics and explain the histories behind the myths about nature and social norms that are integral to environmental concerns motivate my art making. The nature I have grown up in is contrived, polluted, mutated, and is usually experienced through and by boundaries. I want to explore nature in a myriad of ways that may not be natural at all. By creating an inverted forest and tending to a field of dandelions the fantasies of these installations may not be far fetched. I continue to explore the imposition of my hand, as a creator and an American consumer, and how I can influence the world around me. With the multiplicity of hands, minds, and ideas the consequence of our actions is hard to predict. These routes and paths are created or chosen, whether deliberately abrupt or at the disposal of the winds, eventually intersections will occur and it is ultimately these moments of collision that I am fascinated with.” Desiree Moore

Amelia Morris

Amelia graduated with honors from Ball State University in 2008. Her photographs are included in collections at Ball State University and the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction. She is an active member of the Postcard Collective, an international artist postcard exchange group. Amelia was a 2013 Robert D. Beckmann, Jr. Emerging Artist Fellow through the Arts Council of Indianapolis. She won a “golden ticket” scholarship to attend the Photolucida portfolio review festival in 2013 and was a 2014 Critical Mass finalist.

Ismaila "Izo" Ndiaye

Though Ismaila’s most recent creative work is in the art of batik; he first mastered the art of stone sculpture. He began working with stone at the age of 14, and exhibited his work at age 17. His stone sculptures have been shown in such prestigious venues abroad as the National Gallery of Contemporary Art in Dakar, Senegal, and at the Pan African Biennial Exhibition DAK’ART, the International Salon Ouagadougou. Burkina Faso and the Arts Exposition in France.

Anne McKenzie Nickolson

My interest in working with fabric goes back to my early childhood when I learned to sew, embroider, knit and crochet. These interests turned toward art making as I earned my BFA in Textile Design from Northern Illinois University, and my MFA in Textile Design from Indiana University. I have been a practicing, exhibiting fiber artist since 1977. My early work was pieced, appliquéd, embroidered often with hand dyeing and airbrushing. A natural evolution of ideas led to layered, pieced and appliquéd compositions which became quilts in 1997, and I created a rich body of work of these layered pieces. In 2015, I returned to some earlier threads of investigation and began doing embroidery on pieced grosgrain ribbon. This work allows me to incorporate rich, bold, coloration in the ground, with the delicate intensity that I want to bring to resilient images from past travels and experiences. My works have been exhibited in 32 states, 12 countries and 5 continents, including 5 Quilt Nationals and a SITES (Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Series) Show. I have received several grants in support of my work from the Indiana Arts Commission and a Creative Renewal Grant from the Arts Council of Indianapolis. Throughout my career, I have done commissions and have work in many public collections including Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City, A T & T in Kansas City, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and the Indiana State Museum. Publications include articles and feature photographs in “American Craft”, “Fiberarts”, “Art in America”, “Surface Design Journal”, and numerous books.

Participated at Venice Biennial, have done lectures and exhibitions in Art and Design Museums, Art Galleries, Design Stores and Art Institutions in Lisbon, New York, Madrid, Chile and many cities in Brazil, such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Campinas, São José dos Campos, Botucatu, Porto Alegre, Espírito Santo and Brasília.

As an answer to the part of my brain/pysche that was feeling completely left out in science and needing to be expressed, I began weaving which led expanding into other fiber arts. When I was a child and into high school I’d been interested in drawing but never had any training, so it was dropped until, as an adult, I have taken the periodic class- I do enjoy it, but definitely need to train my hand and brain! I also enjoy making jewelry and playing with the juxtaposition of colors (as in my fiber art). I have primarily focused on functional art and would like to develop my display art pursuits, as well.

Currently, I am a MAAT student at SMWC. This a several leaps and decades from my BFA in 3D Computer Animation at SCAD. My life has been one of constant change and adaptation, both unsettling and exciting conditions by which one can still grow and thrive, but that can make it difficult to anticipate outcome and overall direction. Consequently I am intrigued by all that can be controlled. My fiber-based work has, in itself, characteristics derived by this reality such as fragility, tension, elasticity and equilibrium, and only through a precision-based controlled execution, my work comes to life and tells a story that has a clear beginning and an end in sight.

I am inspired by the memories I associate with my identity, the effects of emotional labor, and the associated stereotypes. I use unique forms of storytelling to share concepts rooted in my own life. Each piece is a reflection of these experiences, and that of others. We can all relate to wearing masks to achieve the accepted standard within our own combination of subgroups. Growing up semi-isolated did not make me exempt from being implanted with habitual patterns, but it did allow time for me to develop an uncommon perspective.

Stephanie Lewis Robertson

Much like a musical conversation, Stephanie Lewis Robertson sings to her hand-dyed and –printed fabrics while she works. Spirituality, ritual, nature, music, the concept of the “last worst time” and the current state of the world serve as the inspiration for the fabric and paper constructions. Ms. Robertson is the Program Chair for Fine Arts at Ivy Tech Community College, Central Indiana region. She holds a MFA (1994, University of Georgia) and a BFA (1981, Miami University) in Fabric Design. Her work is included in several corporate and private collections and she is also a teaching artist with Arts for Learning of Indiana. In 2017, she was accepted into Religion Spirituality and the Arts V. Among her other awards and grants are three Individual Artists Grants from the Indiana Arts Commission, an Arts in the Park grant (2017), Second Place Three Dimensional Work in Artistry in Fiber 2016 and Best of Show, Artistry in Fiber 2014, Second Place (2015) and First and Third Place (2011) in Surface Design at the Indiana State Fair, recipient of the Stutz Artists Association Studio Space in 2002, and an Arts Council of Indianapolis Creative Renewal Fellowship in 2001. Marla Roddy was born and raised in Johnstown, PA. She holds an MFA from Indiana University and a BFA in Sculpture and BA in Art History from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Marla is the Assistant Registrar for Exhibitions at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields and is a studio member at Beech Grove Clay Works. Her work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and is in the collection of the Centre Pompidou, Paris.

The Tree Lady is who I am. I am a woman who loves life, family,traveling, sunsets, sunrises, hiking, walking in the rain, the beach, many other things & . . . TREES !!! TREES !!! TREES !!! In 2011 I began painting, drawing, sketching trees on tshirts and then moved on to creating TreeLady blank greeting cards. There’s nothing like receiving a card someone took the time to find, purchase, write a line or two and mail. It tends to bring a huge smile I climbed trees often as a child and found peace there. Trees are like arms reaching for the sky; or branches, embracing us, protecting us. Trees don’t judge us. Trees give us peace. I love sitting under a tree or sitting on a branch up in a tree, just being ! I still climb trees when the opportunity presents itself. Hug a tree, it’s pretty cool. A tree will never betray your trust and always keep your secrets. If you listen closely a tree will speak to you. My Moms dementia brought me back here to Indy, where I was raised. During 2020, trees gave me a new journey, filled with gratitude and grace. Nothing was moving, however everything was blooming, growing and beautiful, even though death was all around, up close, personal and downright terrifying. I found grace, I found gratitude, I found beauty in that leaf I saw transform, change color and start again. I construct, draw and paint trees. I pour tons of love into my canvasses and you feel the love, spirit and roots of life. My goal : your eyes see the beauty, your heart fills with love and your spirit is full of gratitude for the beauty of the moment.

By intentionally making art that is accessible to people who are not wealthy art collectors, I seek to empower myself and other marginalized artists as not only the creators, but also as the consumers.

Cassondra Stukofski is an Indy-based multidisciplinary artist specializing in print, papermaking, and book arts. She graduated in 2008 with a B.F.A. in printmaking from Herron School of Art + Design. Cassie grew up near the small town of Star City on a farm in northern Indiana. She spent summers camping and fishing in Minnesota, practicing art whenever possible. She currently resides in SoBro, working as a freelance artist-designer and production picture framer at In.Site Art Consulting, and her home studio, Bunnywood Creations.

Theoni is my exploration of sewing as a form of expression. I learned how to sew as a child from my mother by making clothing for my dolls. For years I sewed out of practicality, mending garments and making halloween costumes. It wasn’t until more recently that I began to treat a needle and thread as pen and paper, working towards translating flat images through textiles. I currently find my inspiration in experiences of struggle and redemption. I often use photos and real life experiences to create patterns I turn into textile pieces.

The inspiration for my art often comes from my travels as I have moved 13 times: residing in 9 states including picturesque Alaska, lived for three years in Italy, and traveled to several foreign countries. Throughout my travels I have taken hundreds of thousands of photographs and experienced many different cultures. My photography has been incorporated in most of my textile art up until my father’s death when I found I couldn’t work in my usual way. I did an abstract piece exploring how the paths for our lives are planned out by our parents in utero and as we grow, we begin to plan our paths. Seldom do our paths end up as hoped. People, free will, and circumstances cause us to veer from our planned paths: much in the same way my art has changed with the loss of one man in my life. I am now on the thirtieth piece in the series.

I am currently delighting myself, and aiming to delight others, through the production of multiple art forms, particularly painting, drawing, and fabric sculpture. My art is a release of energy and humor, and I use interests, observations, and experiences to inform my compositions. Color, humor, and biological themes can be discovered throughout the body of my work, and often all three are represented in a single piece. I get excited about color, the way three dierent hues of blue melt when you wear them in layers. Consider electric pink toenails and construction spray paint on public sidewalks. Since color found in such ordinary contexts can be so stimulating, I’ve decided to start compositions initially about color, then let them develop as I go. The most delightful aspect of this process is that the piece usually develops into a composition about more than color, but about love, life, line, or a variety of things. I’ve recently poured myself into a series of drawings and paintings that are inspired by intestinal shapes and forms. They are playful and abstract, and they beg you to confront the reality of your digestive system in a light hearted manner. I’ve always been interested in anatomy, histology, and cell biology so these interests are a constant source of creative inspiration.

She holds a B.A. degree in Business Administration with a Marketing concentration. Arnita states: “Of all my experiences, career and business ventures, leather designing is my gift…my passion…my self-expression.”
