Visual Arts: Constructions/Collage, Mixed Media, Painting, Sculpture
I am primarily a sculpture artist working with steel & mixed media. I enjoy creating organic, contemporary forms and figurative forms. Women are strong, elegant, AND beautiful.  I love that I can convey that in the medium I have chosen. In addition to sculpture I also do something I call a botanical collage. I add physical plants to my acrylic paintings & seal them. They have various particles in them that capture the light. I try to make my paintings come to life with this process. As a light source travels across my work it is illuminated in different areas, perhaps mimicking the sun. Artists have imitated nature & plant life for centuries, I actually preserve & enhance it.

Keith Monroe Blanton, born in 1951 to a farming family whose roots can be found in their 1832 homestead farm located on the northeast side of Indianapolis. My earliest memories are of the beautiful people and images associated with the family farms. Beginning with the ability to hold a pencil, I have always sketched and painted the beauty that God has placed around me. It is where I find my peace and my calling. Like most people, my interests over the years have been divided. I received my education in Engineering from Purdue University. The skills that I possess in Art are gifts from God. I have had no formal educational training in Art. My early and middle adult years were spent on the pursuit of an engineering career in the design and construction supervision of roads and bridges throughout Indiana. But, my love has always been in the art of oil painting. To capture on canvas the moment in time, the sparkle in the eye, and yes the very spirit and soul of the person, object, or scene that I am painting. I have always loved the work and passion found in the paintings of the old masters. My years of work as an engineer has aided in the further development of an eye for finite details and an absolute desire to create an heirloom that will be loved and will be cherished for generations.   The paintings of Keith Blanton have been on display at Mayor Ballard’s office, the Mayor of Indianapolis and have been at galleries in Indianapolis, Zionsville, Fishers, Greenwood, South Bend, Goshen, and Plymouth, all in Indiana. Keith has also received awards at shows and exhibits throughout Indiana; the following are a list of a few:   The Indiana State Fair: over the past 30 years, numerous ribbons have been received ranging from “Third Place” to “Honorable Mention”   DeFries Gardens: In the 2010 Garden Art Show received the following two awards: “Best of Show” and “Honorable Mention”   Heartland Regional Art Exhibition in 2009 received the “Popular Choice Award”   Spencer Gallery, 2012 NIA Exhibit, received the “Judges Award”

My work is still in the constant development stage every painting is a little better than the last moving toward a finished style I perceive to be the ultimate for me. I generally paint landscapes, or objects of interest to me. I use a lot of paint drying each coat before the next this gives the final piece a true depth weather I’m using brush or knife.

My work, in general, concentrates on public space. It seems that the space provided for reflection and enjoyment is most often only used for rest or meeting. I use images to highlight what can be overlooked in these spaces. Through reflection and the appreciation of aesthetic in a space freqented by the pedestrian, enjoyment and appreciation can be highlighted.

Art gets me out of bed in the morning. Each work begins with the question “What if?”, and then the adventure begins. I studied art at John Herron and Indiana University. Most of my art that is one composition by day and another by night because I incorporate photoluminescent minerals that absorb any visible light and then shed it for 8+ hours when the lights go out. I’ve had South Studio B17,  in the CCIC in Indianapolis since 2016- Open First Fridays 6-9 PM, or by appointment: 812-679-7422
  • Lydia Burris

Multi Arts; Visual Arts: Constructions/Collage, Illustration, Mixed Media, Painting, Portrait, Sculpture, Visual Arts Instructor, Works on paper; Installation
Lydia Burris is a mixed media and multi-subject artist. She often compares her work to the sense dreams: a place of ambiguity, emotion and surrealism, peppered with snippets of symbolism and meaning. The mind and how it works is a recurring theme in her artwork. In the studio she experiments with both 2D and 3D mediums. She playfully splatters, scrapes, constructs, destroys, and reconstructs her way through the creative process. Her subjects range from a deep darkness to delightful whimsy. Another of her passions is poetry, often through found and cut text creations. She is a fanatic about sketchbooks, and works in one daily. Her most recent series (2020) involved mixed media collages revolving around the yearning to travel mixed with her love of fantastic people and places. In 2004, 2005 Lydia traveled to Norwich, England where she received her Masters of Fine Art from the Norwich School of Art and Design. She keeps an art studio in Downtown Indianapolis, and teaches studio art part time at Ivy Tech. She shows her work in galleries, participates in art events, and vends at conventions such as GenCon and Horrorhound Weekend. (Pre-pandemic) A full list of events for each year can be seen on her website.
