  • Kathryn Dart
    Kathryn Dart
Visual Arts: Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Works on paper
I am a visual artist working primarily with beeswax. However, I have a hard time defining myself as an encaustic artist, a painter, or a sculptor; my artwork exists in a space between these categories and is not limited by them. I make art simply because of a deeply personal drive to create, express, and share. The more time I spend focused on my art practice, the more I come to see the world from a different vantage point – one that continually sees creative potential in my surroundings. I make art about relationships and community to synthesize my experience with life and the people around me. Sharing this perspective with others is the payoff for creating art. I want to make art that engages, that provokes thought, that starts conversation. My loftiest goal would be that my work would have an impact on others, whether small or large, on an individual or a community.

  • Doris Davis
    Doris Davis
    Performing Arts: Music
Doris J. Davis, Jazz Vocalist And still I sing! Oh, we have a new singer in town! Where did she come from? Why haven’t I heard of her before? When and where can I hear her sing again? Some of the more mature jazz lovers, acquainted with the early Indiana jazz scenes on Indiana Avenue, 16th and Northwestern (before Dave’s), North Meridian Street, and the Barrington area know that this is her second go-round. She still has the ability to drive an up tempo song, and confidently relay the soul of a ballad. She is currently working on production of a new CD of songs from the Great American Songbook. Chuck Workman, local Jazz announcer and columnist gave her a very favorable review in the September 7-14, 2005 issue of Nuvo Newsweekly after hearing her perform in the famous Walker Ballroom. She began singing under the tutelage of David Baker, Professor of Music, Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, who at that time was a jazz trombone player / music coach. The summers of 2008 and 2009 she has attened the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshops at the University of Louisville. In the early years she sang with such music notables as Jimmy Coe, Earl “Fox” Walker, Les Taylor, Claude Bartee, Buddy Parker, Albert Walton, Paul Parker, Tiny Adams and many others. She has performed in the most popular Indiana venues of the day, including The Barrington Lounge, The Place to Play, and the Pink Poodle, occasionally she performed outside Indiana in Oklahoma City,<

  • Tashema Davis
    Tashema Davis
    Visual Arts: Painting
I grew up in projects of Gary Indiana, but I somehow truly enjoyed my life and my surroundings. I often find myself creating pieces that remind me of home and the times of my childhood. I left Gary in 2000 to attend Ball State University where I received a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design. After a few months I realized that was not my passion, so I returned to Ball State for graduate studies. I received my Masters in art and a license to teach art 2010. I’ve been teaching various art courses at Marion High School in Marion Indiana since 2011 and I absolutely love teaching art! Along with teaching art, I am also the sponsor of the Marion High School art club, sit on the advisory board for the art and writing scholastics of the Fort Wayne museum of art, book illustrator, and do community beautification projects. The ultimate purpose for my art is to be an expression of all things beautiful and meaningful in life. I believe art transcends the typical and doesn’t always dwell in the realm of just color, line, and form. Art is also composed of higher thought, in the divine commission to help others become better, and to spread peace.

Through my work, I hope the viewer feels their great connection too.

I’m also a member of the Society of Children’s Books Writers & Illustrators.
