I moved to Indianapolis in February 2020. I currently have my art for sale at a local business: Relics Redesigned. You should definitely look them up. Visual Arts: Crafts, Photography, Textiles, Visual Arts
Lauren Ditchley was born and raised in Indianapolis, where she finds the inspiration for many of her photographs. Lauren received a B.F.A. from the University of Indianapolis in 2007, with a focus in Photography, Ceramics, and Psychology. Lauren is an art teacher and art assistant at Sycamore School and currently teaches a photography class to non-art majors at the University of Indianapolis. As a member of INvision: Alliance of Photographic Artists she continues to explore the media of photography with artists from varying backgrounds.   “As I became interested in photography near the end of my college career, I wanted to capture things that I came in contact with every day. It seems that I get the most inspiration when driving, from one place to another, taking in what I see outside my window. Many of the places I drive past each day during my commute to and from work, while others maybe only once when taking a new route. There is something special about these places, maybe it is a hand written sign, a color, a glimmer of hope that life still exists there, that I want to capture. As my work has evolved I have been able to find connections between the buildings I see every day, with the places I find inspiring during my travels. Places thousands of miles away that seem to speak to each other. With these photographs, I want to inspire the viewer to see what is around them and create their own story. Look at the mundane to find a little piece worth capturing. Being an art teacher has given me a new perspective on the creation of art, because I am constantly challenged to think of interesting connections between art and the world around us. During class I encourage students to share their life experiences that they relate to the element of art, artist, culture, or time period we are exploring. My goal is to provide a safe and open learning environment that allows students to grow as individuals.”

I’ve been making art my whole life, and it’s also been my profession for the last thirty years. As challenging as that can be at times, it is also a daily chance to bring beauty into the world and that makes me happy. When I asked a friend for three words to describe my art, without a pause he said “playful, constructive, nostalgic.” I think it’s a pretty good summary, and it applies whether I’m creating a mixed media project or up-cycling a thrift store find.

Visual Arts: Crafts, Illustration, Mixed Media, Painting, Visual Arts, Works on paper; artisan specialties such as my own design and created Santa Claus figures and dolls.
I am a self taught artist.  My mother was an artist and my father was an artisan.  They both had the ability to see something in their mind and make that or design and create something. I have been painting and drawing since I was a child. Always had paper and pencil in my hand.  I grew up in the country and come from New York State.  Upstate New York, Binghamton, NY.  I retired and moved here in 2009.  My only son has a restaurant here. Back east I painted and also did soft sculpted face Santa Claus figures.  All built from scratch and with real wool beards.  Sometimes people would bring their old furs or damaged dress (wedding dress) or an heirloom and I would make a doll or a Santa Claus figure. I belonged to The Cooperative Gallery on State Street in Binghamton, NY and painted cards and had my Santa figures in the Gallery.   they are having a show for the founding members at this time and I just shipped a Santa back to them. I worked at administrative and clerical jobs all my adult life and have carpal tunnel.  I have had surgery a few years ago.   But at this point I am trying to maintain my hands at a healthy pace.   And so I do not do those figures any more and spend time making art. I paint watercolors mostly.  I like doing cards.  But also do some mixed media on canvas.  I sketch and work out designs for my cards.    I do paintings also and have taken them to Johnson County fair in July.   My classification has been non-professional. Thank you. Nancy Evans
