Barbara Triscari was born in Ohio but spent most of her childhood in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Her mother, Tina Mc Cann, was a formative example in Barbara’s artistic development with her fearlessness when approaching any project. The softness, possibilities of manipulation, and surface design potential of fiber intrigues me and challenges me to look at traditional forms of fiber art and stretch those traditions to see what possibilities lay beyond. The incorporation of digital and unorthodox methods and media keep me questioning how else I can share my experienced moments and visions. I explore the use of leather and rusting in some of my pieces. I utilize repurposed leather for digital prints, applique, and piecing. Controlling rust, rather than serendipitously accepting what a rusty object can imprint on fabric, is an ongoing exploration. I was looking for a way to produce a more photographic, precise application of rust and have had success reproducing my photographs in rust as well as rust drawing.
Since the passing of my father, I began exploring abstracts and the theme of life’s paths and how external factors change those paths in unexpected ways. The Life’s Paths Series has grown to over 30 pieces.
Barbara exhibits throughout the year with INfiber, a central Indiana fiber arts collective, Flava Fresh, and Studio Art Quilt Associates as well as on her own throughout the midwest. Her pieces can also be found nationally in quilt exhibitions.
As a self-taught artist, I continually study art and design, as well as textile techniques. I have been a studio artist since 2010: publishing, and exhibiting.
