About My Work:

My ceramic work is defined and inspired by functional forms and traditional shapes. My current work focuses on exploring the aesthetics of multilevel forms and the functionality behind those forms. I use a combination of vase and bowl forms to create a new form that goes beyond the original intentions of those forms. Some methods that I use in my process include altering bowls into jewelry holders and vases into containers which give these pieces a new utilitarian purpose.

I throw my pieces either as separate pieces and then attach them together, or I throw the form all at once with several pounds of clay. I create my pieces with stoneware clay from my school studio or commercially manufactured porcelain. The clay is bisque fired to cone 09 (1693°F) in an electric kiln. The bisqued pieces are then glaze fired in an electric kiln to Δ 6 (2232°F).

I work with a variety of Δ 6 glazes that are either commercially manufactured, made in my school studio, or  made by myself. My glaze colors range from dark opaque colors to multicolor drizzles that mix together as they run down the surface of the piece.  I take inspirations from nature around me and the colors that I see in my everyday life.
