Ess McKee, a mixed media artist, is an Arizona native based in Indianapolis, IN. Ess discovered her passion for her chosen means of expression while living in Frankfurt, Germany as a child. Inspired by an appreciation for graffiti art and hip hop culture, she began to focus on character illustrations and abstract typographic forms. With a background in graphic design, she merges the world of analog and digital to create works that are both grunge and cosmetic.
My creative liberation is an act of rebellion. A way of vocalizing the graffiti of words and images in my head. Drawing from an urban street art influence, much of my work is crafted with the grunge of city culture, the sounds of shaking spray cans, and the smell of aerosol in mind. Mixing mediums, my expression manifests in the form of typographic prose, abstract paintings, photographic narration, handcrafted objects, character illustrations and digital imagery.
