Martha Lindenborg Vaught

I have lived in Central Indiana all my life and draw from this land, inspiration for my original works; raised along the tree lined and gracious streets of Irvington (S.E. Indianapolis) I developed a love of place and its impact on human outlook. Indiana’s weather and geography are not spectacular; here the weather is often frustratingly bland, making me look hard to find subjects compelling enough to paint or draw, but as an artist I think it is vital to record what life is like in the time we live, even if that life is not lived in an exotic local! I enjoy sense of place and atmosphere in the works of other artists and seek to contribute my spin on that for my home.

My subjects are from what I live with day to day: the land: people; their/my furnishings; and animals, (primarily domestic horses, cats, dogs, chickens, and hedgehogs) that abide here. My linoleum and woodcut prints are of a more narrative nature with many making a direct comment on society or ideas. My current work is exploring the impact that global warming is having on our farming operation, and on the native plants and animals. I am gravely concerned for the future health of Indiana’s cultural and natural environment.

All of my prints are in limited editions, hand inked and pulled, on highest quality Japanese and European papers. My paintings are executed oil on a variety of high quality supports, cotton & linen canvas, birch plywood and Masonite panels. I take care to produce a long lasting artwork and have extensively studied correct/archival methods and materials.

Currently I reside in Johnson Co, IN on our family farm with my husband Jud.
