Melissa Cain, born in 1974 in Indianapolis, IN, embarked on her artistic journey as a child,
discovering her innate talent through the pages of cartoon books. With an enduring fascination for imagery’s power, she excelled in art classes and pursued graphic design in college. However, her heart longed for a more profound connection to her creative spirit. In 2012, painting entered her life, recommended by her neurologist for stress relief due to epilepsy.

About My Work:

I paint realism in acrylics. I teach acrylic painting classes so most of my acrylic paintings were created in a classroom setting, me as the instructor, or as a commision job.

When I’m not teaching a class and I create “just for me” I love doing abstracts and impressionism. Most of my works are textured. I enjoy using various texture mediums but I mostly enjoy using every day items as texture. I’ve used various papers, shredded plastic, cork, fabric, and countless other items just to see what it looks like with paint thrown on it.

My process is to not have much of a plan. Sometimes I begin a project because I am inspired by an item that I want to use. Or maybe it’s a certain color pattern I’m thinking of at the moment. Either way, when I feel it’s time to create, I will go with this one little idea and not plan anything else, just go to it. At times I feel as though I’m not even the one in control, like my mind or something higher has taken over and my hands are just going with the flow. Amazing things happen when you just free yourself and let it all out.

  1. Do you do contract work? Do you work with resin and wood? Looking for someone to turn a slab of a tree trunk into a medium sized table.
