The youngest of three, I grew up in a small town outside of Ann Arbor Michigan. I came to Indiana for college (to please my Grandmother who lived in Fishers at the time) and I never left. About My Work:

As with any artist, my body of work has changed over time. In graduate school, my main focus was on portraits that revolved around textures; smooth, coarse, wavy, curly. I chose my models usually for the texture of their hair. I found rough, coarse, and curly hair a wonderful challenge. I loved to sit down with an image, my pastels, charcoal and a scrap piece of paper and play with the media until I was able to replicate the hair textures in a unique way. I wanted the hair to look like the subject’s but I also wanted the media to shine through. I also loved the challenge of skin tones. In charcoal, being able to achieve the minor shadows within one facial expression, and with pastels I loved to find the underlying tones to create just the right colors of the face.

My recent work has been focused on happiness. My work has always had a playfulness with the posing of my models but I began to move towards the playfulness of color and that is where I have been at currently. I have been exploring playfulness with both the color and the subject matter of my pieces. It is my hope that creating the pieces that bring me happiness will not only fulfill me, but bring a slice of happiness, comfort, and serenity to the viewers as well.
