Stephanie Spay is an award winning Indiana based oil painter with a constant passion for the figure and portrait, an enthusiasm for still life, and a fascination for landscape. I stagger between two realms when painting. I enjoy exploring the complexities of the human experience, yet I am often drawn to painting scenes of ordinary daily life. I endeavor to marry these two fascinations with unusual points of view and tricks of the light, challenging the viewer to engage a little longer before moving on. Whether it be figurative or still life, my themes lie somewhere between candid moments in time and posed scenarios. I paint in a realist style with loose and fluid brushwork which allows me to play and invent, creating a tension between realism, magical realism, and abstraction.
I am a member of the Hoosier Salon, The Indiana Artists Club, The Portrait Society of America, and The Hamilton County Artists Association.
