Mullinix leads the Naptown Strutters Jazz Band. Founded in 1982, the band plays a mix of New Orleans jazz, spirituals, and traditional Dixieland and blues. The band, which consists of piano or banjo, bass, drums, clarinet, trombone, and trumpet, performs at concerts, festivals, corporate events, and schools. It also provides an educational program for middle schools explaining the beginnings of jazz, along with the functions of each instrument and its history.
