About My Work:

As an artist, the impetus for all my work originates with phenomena from the left brain world of physics, mathematics, and astronomy. Like any good scientist, I study, research and attempt to explain the mechanics of any given phenomena so I can best convey universal truths through my artwork. My art always begins with my own curiosity of unexplained occurrences in nature and daily life. From my research, I conduct experiments in which I can test the mechanics, physics and properties related to my subject matter. It is through these comprehensive experiments that I discover my own understanding of how the subject or location can be used or manipulated to achieve a different means for visually understanding existence. I create unconventional and innovative art that pushes the “Light & Space” art movement of the 60s into the future and beyond by combining emerging technologies and recent discoveries in the physical sciences. Technology is such a prevalent tool in our daily lives but very little technology driven public art is being created in the Midwest. I consider my work and area of focus to be on the leading edge of what I call the ‘Smart Art Movement’, a medium/technique that effectively integrates the use of smart technologies with the public, where the viewer is an active part of my creations. By creating this relationship between the scientific and the aesthetic I am able to create works that connect to a broader audience regardless of their background or worldview.
